should I book a hotel limousine for arrival?

by mommymomo

Hello. Please can anyone advise me if it's easy to get a taxi from the airport or should I arrange a hotel limousine pick-up? I want to get to the Riyuegu resort.

Thanks!

Unless you speak mandarin or wish to be adventurous, I would recommend arranging a pickup as long as the hotel is not charging an outrageous premium. I didn't find a single cab driver that spoke English in China - even in big cities like Beijing and Shanghai. If you choose to take a cab, just hand the driver the phone # for the hotel (use a little sign language to indicate it's a phone) so he can call the hotel and get the hotel information from them.

Xiamen is a small island, don't worry about the taxi, you can easily find it everywhere.

Gulangyu Beach and Island

by yurxlnc

There are pleasant tree-lined beaches. Gulangyu, also known as Piano Island, is a popular, weekend getaway with amazing views of the city. The beaches seem clean and were not crowded when we were there.

Xiamen - Amoy Port, Fukkien

by SLLiew

Many overseas Chinese in Southeast left from Amoy to start a new life. Many have returned to visit their homeland as tourist or investing in the local economy. Xiamen is a port which was forced to be open to the West and still have an island of European style buildings.

Xiamen is also one of the closest city to Taiwan in geographical distance, historical and cultural ties.

The majority of the Penangite Chinese are Hokkien (Fujianese) and so I did sample the local food as see a similarity but still prefer Penang style. It is like comparing the original Italian pizza and American gourmet pizza.

Back to Xiamen, it has been rated one of the top places in China to live in. Not a top 10 tourist destination in China but interesting place to spend a day or two touring if you happen to be here for business or transit to your home village or tourist destinations.
