Jiayuguan Hotel
The four-star Jiayuguan Hotel, owned and managed by the Jiuquan Iron and Steel Company (but of course....hotels are core business for steel companies everywhere!), and is the most expensive place in town.
In summer the Jiayuguan Hotel is too cold and in winter it is stifling inside, but the rooms are comfortable and spacious. Rooms at the back are noticeably quieter than those at the front which faces a busy roundabout and busy streets.
There are two wings here, the east wing and the west wing - the former is the more modern. The restaurant on the ground floor is good, but remember that the Western breakfast is on the first floor not the ground floor.
Unique Quality: There are a number of shops on the ground floor behind the lobby, but the one that is open during the winter is poorly stocked.
I couldn't get the internet connection to work in my room ( a common issue in many Chinese hotels, which proclaim they have broadband internet and then cannot provide it at all when you need it)
I've stayed in better three and four star hotels in China, but the Jiayuguan Hotel is comfortable enough.
