The Zhangye Binguan is the top hotel in Zhangye, and sits back in its own courtyard away from the hustle of the street and the nearby square.
The rooms are spacious if a little dated but the bathroom was good, with a nice shower cabin and a powerful shower.
The beds were rock hard.
The restaurant is a bit grim: cavernous and empty and it all seemed just a bit too much trouble for the staff to actually do anything.
Having stayed many times in the Zhangye Hotel over the last four years, sadly the hotel has deteriorated badly and I will not be returning. There are other hotels in Zhangye that wil get my custom before I return to the Zhangye. The catalogue of woes is too long to list here, but culminated in them being unable to process a foreign credit card (despite haveing used that card at this hotel before). They were just full of excuses about it all, but it caused serious problems with our group as people had to go and get large amounts of cash from the bank before leaving on a long journey. The breakfast has gone from being grim to being dire, with unhelpful, surly staff and - simply - crap food.
Unique Quality: The Zhangye Binguan is close to the Reclining Buddha Temple and the main square with the pagoda.
