In Chinese, the word "hu" means "lake"... "Ding" refers to a large bowl that sits on a tripod and "shan" means "mountain"... Thus the phrase Dinghu Shan describes an area with a lake and a mountain shaped like a ding... In this pic, Xiujuan and I pose next to the "lake" part of the equation...!
I began my drum solo with a slow and primeval sense of unrelenting determination... Something like the low low death groan of desperation uttered by the last living neanderthal... Entire species had come and gone from the earth, by the thousand upon thousand... What was the meaning of it...? My listeners waited for an answer...
After all this hiking around, the girls wanted to stop for a quick rest and catch their breath... Xiujuan is pictured here, sitting next to her two friends, Yongfang and Qiaoling, who are also both Guangdong girls... But only a moment's rest, and we continued on, for the prize still lay ahead... or did it...?
Inside Qingyun Temple, there is an excellent Buddhist vegetarian restaurant...! I tell you, we ate like royals there!! Don't these monks practice any austerities...? Well, let's hope not! The middle way, guys...! We had a fabulous meal here of Cantonese vegetables, delicious sweet breads and the most truly transcendent flower tea! Eccentricly concentric!!
After our excursion at Sun Yatsen's waterfall pool, we continued down the meandering path of the stream, without any general sense of where we would go next... Not sure how it all started, but suddenly, the girls were engaged in a pitched battle, splashing water at each other with wild abondon, as if Heimdall's horn had blown and Ragnarok was upon us...!
