Bell of Prosperity.
by Guantanamera
In this photo, Xiujuan helps me grip this large red object of auspicious shape, and plunge it toward the magnificent bell awaiting...! 10 smooth and rhythmic strokes produced euphonic vibrations heard throughout the land, and brought us 10 blessings of prosperity...!
She's got the beat!
by Guantanamera
And in this picture, the talented Xiujuan tries her hands at the drum...! A stir of excitement in the area as she put together a spontaneous series of playful taps, dynamic upstrokes and polyrhythmic bounces that would put even the legendary Sheila E. to shame...!
Dinghu Shan Flora.
by Guantanamera
Dinghu Shan is located in the far south-eastern corner of China, just barely north and east of tropical Indochina... This region is filled with trees and plants that are ready made to endure the sauna-like heat and humidity of Guangdong province... Strange species such as a Westerner like myself is unfamiliar...! In this shot, Xiujuan poses near some giant branches...
Dragon frieze.
by Guantanamera
In this picture, Xiujuan and I are posing alongside an immense and convoluted wall frieze of interlocking ancient Chinese dragons... This magnificent piece of aesthetics, a magnum opus at once reptilian and sinological, was one of the star attractions at the famed Qingyun Temple...!
The waterfall pool.
by Guantanamera
According to local account some unfortunate soul wound up dead after an accident of some sort and since that time the pool is now off-limits for swimming... But a cursory glance of the conditions of the pool shows it to be completely harmless... It was at that time that I began to really feel from a personal perspective, that authoritarianism had become a bit excessive in the PRC... As a natural subversive against any sort of oppression, I proceeded down to the second waterfall pool, just out of view of the Orwellian eyes of the authorities, and took a quick clandestine swim...!
