nanshe ancient village
"what is it?"
the nanshe ancient village is a 67,000+ square meter town which was established in the ming and qing dynasties (now how long ago was tha). it is located in chashan town, dongguan. it is about 30 minutes by car to dongguan city.
if you buy a dongguan map, it is actually there.
"getting there"
coming from fenggang, we reached nanshe by private car. it took us about an hour and half.
when commuting, you can take either the bus or train from shenzhen.
the bus station is in dongguan city while the train station is in changping, another town in dongguan city. travel by taxi from both places would take about the same time judging from the distance on the map. as we didnt take either the bus nor the train, i dont know how much the fare is. although from DG city to shenzhen costs around 50RMB.
"ancestral halls"
the town is filled with ancestral halls. some, like the houses, are occupied, and some abandoned.
"no maps"
the place wouldve been easier to explore if there were maps or signages around the village. but we found none of that.
in an article from the newspaper
(http://www.newsgd.com/citiesandtowns/dongguan/info/200401130043.htm), there are many interesting landmarks, but we didnt find those as we aimlessly walked around.
"advise"
if you're going there, better bring soemone who knows the place or somebody who can speak chinese.
"labyrinth alleys"
it's a wonder how residents find their way in the maze like alleys. they all look alike!
"old and beautiful"
overall, if you have an appreciation for things beautiful AND old, this is a place worth going to.
