Golden Palace Hotel: Would stay again

I have stayed at the Golden Palace Hotel in Fenggang Town twice, the visits several years apart.

My impressions on my first visit were favourable... but last year improved to excellent. I think the rooms (my room, at least) had been the subject of a recent makeover and was more than comfortable... one of the best that I have had, inside China. It was in fact a sort of mini-suite, with a small TV lounge ajoining the bedroom.

Breakfast was, as usual in China, pretty terrible. However the hotel makes up for this with excellent Chinese food at lunch and dinner - their resturant is a favourite spot for local businessmen to entertain western customers.

Architecturally, the hotel is a bit of a tart - part built in Chinese "willow-pattern" vernacular around an ornamental pond, part fourteen-storey bed-factory. The ornamental pont section will at least provide you with some photos to fascinate the folks back home.
