Hello there!

Most of the people take the train from HK to Shenzhen LoWu which costs around 30HKD then you will need to go through the boarder and after that, you just need to take another train from Shenzhen to GZ which takes approx.45mins.

Hope ur will have a great time staying in GZ:)

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Shopping for fresh produce

by jackiesg about Wet Markets

Beside buying your food and household equipment from supermarkets, there are also many wet markets selling really fresh food.

Wet market can be found commonly in GZ. Although they may vary in the hygiene level and the cleanliness, the vegetables sold there are usually fresher than supermarkets and at a much cheaper price. Most wet market would have stalls selling live chickens and live seafood, killed only upon your purchase.

Unlike supermarkets where vegetables are pre-packed in standard quantity and price tagged, you can choose and buy any quantity you want in the wet market and even ask for free spring onion, chilli or coriander if you buy alot from the same vendor. If you like, you can also bargain but generally it will only be 10 cents or 20 cents cheaper. But as there will be many stalls for you to choose and compare prices, few will try to bargain with the veg sellers.

There are also "dry stores" that sells rice, sauces, beans, other dried food etc.

But do take note that they sell mostly local products, you still need to get your pasta or tempura flour in supermarkets!

Day trip to Zhaoqing

by SLLiew

Located about 100 km to the northwest of Guangzhou, Zhaoqing is an ancient town with natural landscape beauty that attracts the locals as a tourist destination.

It is dubbed "Little Guilin" and "Little West Lake". The Seven Star limestone hills dominate the landscape with the Star Lake - a pleasant place to stroll and the Dinghu mountains.

Zhaoqing is well known for producing Chinese herbal medicine. So get a local expert to get your system back into balance.

There are many hill temples and getting popular with the new found economic prosperity.

Worth a weekend stay if you are visiting Guangzhou for awhile.

I was in Guangzhou on Dec 2001.
There I met my good friend Sasa (VT member Sasahead) and we visited the Baomo Garden in Panyu and the Chen Clan Temple in Guangzhou.
The pictures are in the travelogues.
