Travelling to GZ from 6-10 Feb - Is it a good time to go?

by Kleb

Hi,me and my family are thinking of visiting Guangzhou from 6-10 of February. Is it a good time to visit Guangzhou during that time as it is the Chinese new year?

Will it be difficult to get transport around the city such as Taxis? Would the shops such as those in Beijing road or Shang xia jiu road be open during this period?

Hope someone could help me out with those questions. Thanks alot!

hello
as ours new year begins form 6th to 14th.for the 6th and 7th,it is family garthering .so when you go to some shopping stree ,some of the some and resturant are close.and there is fewer taxis than the normal days.
i think after 8th,will be more shops and big resturant open.
meanwhile ,you also can see some celebrate activity and prefermace on the road.
you can't get traffic jam during the new year, the road is quite empty .
i don;t think it will be some problem after 8th.
wish you a good trip in guang zhou .

Apart from the gorgeous natural wonders, Xiqiao Shan's primary tourist attraction is a gigantic statue of Guan Yin, reminiscent of Hong Kong's famous Lantau Island Big Buddha. Sitting atop one of the highest points of Xiqiao Shan, Big Guan Yin is bronze plated and surrounded by a moat...

Guangzhou (my new home!?)

by nedwobsamoht

"Small city boy to big city"

Where I'm from, Guangzhou seems like a mega city, with its multi level fly overs and cascading concrete skyline. My first night traveling by car from Hong Kong to Guangzhou through Shenzhen in January 2005 was a massive eye opener to me about the possibilities of life in other places besides my own small city home in South Australia. I never realised how "be all and end all" thinking existed within the normal citizens of my city (excluding the international students of course). I came to Guangzhou initially to meet my girlfriends' family but have enjoyed spending almost ever moment of it here. I say almost for the one thing that stresses me greatly is the type of toilet you will get anywhere in the city, its a gamble between sit down and squat down, I hate squating, I fall over cos my knees hurt. Apart from this I have had really good times here, cheap things to buy and nice inlaws who want to show me Guangzhou and the rest of China.

"I come here again"

I liked it enough last time to come back again during my uni break. This time for about 3 months. Despite paying the air fares its all good. I still cannot get enough of these flyovers. I love it, zipping around like the jetsens on spaghetti like roadways. More to write here cos Im still here...
