 | Chime Long Hotel: Great 'tourist' destination area in Guangzhou

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times in the last 1 1/2 years. To say that this is a unique hotel is an understatement. Put simply there is nothing else even close to it anywhere else in China. A bit of background which I have found out during my stays... the Chimelong Hotel is owned by the Chimelong Group, one of China's largest tourism companies. The aim of the Chimelong Group is to create the world's biggest tourism 'kingdom'. So with this is mind, the hotel forms part of this kingdom and is surrounded by the 'biggest' and 'best' zoo, themepark, circus, and waterpark. Each of these wants to be 'the world's best'... Back to the hotel - there is the 'Safari Theme' and amazingly white-tigers and flamingos within the resort (this is to tie in with the Safari Park). There is something very tranquil about eating beside a window which is the glass barrier to two white-tigers in their large natural enclosure. I have always found the staff very friendly and the English levels quite good. The rooms are big compared to other hotels and generally come with a nice sitting area with couch and coffee table. Probably the one of the best things about this resort is its location. Staying here allows you to see a very different side to China. It is located in the southern district of Guangzhou (35mins from the city centre), and is very easy to get around because of the metro station (Line 3, Hanxi-Changlong station) situated beside the Chimelong attractions. A shuttle bus from the hotel (leaving every 30mins) will take you the 4mins to get to the metro station (and the same is offered returning). If you are looking to see a different side to China, or if you are looking to stay away from the pollution of Guangzhou city, then the Chimelong Hotel should definately be on the list.
Chimelong Paradise Amusement Park - one of China's largest theme parks which holds a number of records for the "biggest" and "best" rides and shows Chimelong International Circus - the world's largest permanent circus. A must see show, comparable to 'Circus do soli', but this circus includes some animal acts and has a very large international cast Chimelong Water Park - China's largest waterpark. Has all the "latest rides" and a number of "first" water rides Chimelong Xiangjiang Safari Park - China's leading zoo. It has over 20,000 animals including pandas, koalas, polar bears, orangutans, elephants, etc.

How many hotels have live white tigers and flamingos just off the lobby. The Chimelong is a surreal but a lot of fun. It is like a piece of Africa - as imagined by a Chinese hotel designer - transplanted into the Pearl River Delta, south of Guangzhou. It calls itself 5 star, but think 4 star. The service is friendly, but just look at the weird room service menu....many items (e.g. orange juice) only available until 11.30am (yes...a.m) and very poor service even when you do get them to agree to deliver something standard (no spoon arrived with the ice cream, no napkin and most of the coffee spilt over the grubby tray)
The white tigers have to be the top thing. Fabulous pool. Night safari, normal safari park, and huge, huge golf driving range. The African kitsch is amusing, but possibly wearing after a couple of days. It is unusual in that there are very few resort hotels in China. I could forgive the poor room service and the poor shop (no coffee in the room, which you even get in most 2 star hotels in China these days).......if you have kids, this is a good place to spend a few days in a resort environment.
