The history and the modernization
by w3ejijunchen
Guangzhou is the third lagest city in China. After these year's development, GuangZhou, once the most open treading city in China, become more and more shineing, it's not only improve their economic capbility, and the human life in this city is become more fun enjoyble It's really crowd, and the what I think the traffic is the worst in China. In Guangzhou, you should becareful, something is really cheap in other part of china, but sometimes the stores in Guangzhou will charge your double or more for the same thing you could by in other city.
Hong Kong to Guangzhou
by herzog63
I got up early from my cubicle on Nathan Road and took a bus to the train station. Then I took the train to the Hong Kong border town of Lu Wo which cost me HK$14.50 US$1.87 for the 1-2 hour train ride (I don't remember exactly) Then I had to walk across the border to Shenzen which is in China. It seemed like a whole different world as there weren't any signs in English at all!! I quickly found Hong Konger that helped me change money into the FEC's and get in the correct line to buy a train ticket to Guangzhou which cost me 11.90 FEC's (US$6.46) for the 3 hour ride Hard Seat (which is very comfortable) to Guangzhou. We arrived to the outskirts of Guanghou it what seemed like a couple hours then then the train slowed way down and just crept along for the next hour or so to the main railway station!! It sure seemed weird to me but that's the the way it was.(remember this is from 1987 so I'm sure it's not good to base a future trip off these prices)
SHOPPING!!! There is no China...
by kimberbakos
SHOPPING!!! There is no China keepsake that can't be found on Shaiman Island and the shops surrounding the White Swan and the Victory Hotels.
There is so much variety and such great prices at all the stores. If it is your last stop in China, you can even buy an extra suitcase to bring it all home in. There isn't anything you can't find.
VT meeting with Rita
by simcard
Rita, also known as Xingfa in VT, is such a sweet girl from Guangzhou. We met by the pearl river and enjoyed a nice walk and talk. I am so impressed by her eagerness to help with my work in the charity for orphans, and also so moved by her love to her younger sisters.
