An escape from the city

Surrounded by trees and a park and far away from the smog and traffic of downtown Guangzhou, the Crowne Plaza Science City is somewhat of an Oasis. I've only stayed there once but I frequently go there for after work drinks.

Rooms are large and nicely appointed. Lobby area and bar is nice and spacious, plus very cool in the muggy summers here.

You feel like you're at a resort and not a hotel. A tropical getaway (without the beach... Or the tropics)

Unique Quality: Organic vegetables grown onsite. (yup... they grow their own veges and they are delish!)

Free shuttle into Guangzhou East Train station

The Mad Scientist bar (basically a games room with a bar)

Yummy food for lunch and dinner (with a little Portuguese section)

Crowne Plaza Science City

Completed in 2009, pretty empty due to remote location.

Expat/Westerner hangouts in GZ

by Tanjavd

I have been to GZ 3 times already, but failed to find the expat/westerner hangouts in Guangzhou. I travel alone to GZ to buy stock for my shop, and would love to speak actual English to a person when I am there.
Any ideas?

Have you looked at ex-pat sites like

http://www.internations.org/expats/home/china/guangzhou

? Might be worth exploring and possibly posting on them.....

Like Leics said, join a web site club for expats. When I was in Zhuhai a number of times, I join Zhuhai nights where there were many expats that get together for chats, party, and outing,it is a great site. Cheers Tommy x

Litai Waterfall : Located in...

Litai Waterfall : Located in Panyu, the waterfall is 138 meters wide with a difference of 28 meters. The scenic area is covered with dense and greed trees. There are sea world, exciting animal performances and a few other amusements.

Guangzhou Metro

by THLIN

Comparing to the metro system in Shenzhen, Guangzhou's is a lot outstanding for its convenience, but it is not as new as the one in SZ. GZ metro practically covers all of main touristic places including Shamian island, Martyr shrine, Yuexio Park ,and Guangxiao temple. But please note that the system can be extremely crowded on the weekends. Yet, this is the simplest way for a first time visitor to move around in the city.

Guangxiao Si.

by Guantanamera

Guangxiao Si, also known as the Bright Filial Piety Temple, is built on the site of one of the oldest Buddhist Temples in China, extending back at least as far as the 4th century A.D., and possibly all the way back before the founding of the city of Guangzhou itself around the 2nd century A.D.... Pictured here is the huge golden Buddha of this temple...
