Get out and explore the city, away from the main tourist sites. Just walking around the city with my guidebook in hand, trying to figure out the Chinese street signs so I could find what seemed interesting.

Metro In GZ

Very fast and a trains comes from 2-6 minutes apart, depending on the time. All the stations have english on them and they are very easy to use. There is 2 lines right now which cover a good size of gz, soon there is another line opening.

Conghua Hot Springs Scenic Region

Conghua Hot Springs Scenic Region is 75km away from Guangzhou city. The spring water is rich in various chemicals which are healthy to your body. "Tian He district"

Tian He is considered "the New Town", where everything looks very modern and doesnt like the style of the old town - the traditional city center.

CITIC towner, right now GZ's tallest office building (83 floors) and the most luxurious one, locates at the center of this district, with a number of elegant restaurants and premium hotels around.

Opposite the building, around 500 meters away, is East railway station, which connect Guangzhou and JiuLong (of HK) directly.

"Goodbye BaiYun airport"

Guangzhou is moving airport: the new BaiYun Airport will be put into use on August 5, 2004.

The old one, which has served bilions of passengers in the past decades, will be completely closed and later become a commercial center. The new one, which also called BaiYun (white cloud) airport is much far from the downtown: you need 1 hr plus from airport to downtown while 20 minutes at most from the old airport to any where in the downtown.
