GZ is relatively safe as any other cities, provided that travellers taking all necessary precautions in all aspects. Do not wander around shady or less travelled lanes.

Do not follow any body who claimed that they can take you to the cheapest shop for any things of your fancies.

Respect the places you're visiting, their people as well. Then your journey will be a wondrous and meaningful memories.

Safe journey and enjoy your trip

Dan

PS: WhiteHorse Complex for fashion (or something like that) ShangXiaJiuLu shopping street or BeiJing Lu for shoppings.

I will be in Guangzhou nxt week..very short stop from my backpacking itineraries : Macau>GuangZhou>Shenzhen>Hong Kong & back to Macau.

Here's is my Guangzhou short itineraries & queries:

1) Reaching via bus froim Zhuhai :10:30am - Nan Yue tomb museum (My query is it necessary to stop by?) . I will skip Yuexie park.
2) There is a park No0rth of Guanyuenqian metro ..in my gps maps noted as Site of Nanyue Kongdom Palace. Is this ancient Palace still exist??
3) Guangxie temple & 6 banyan tree pagoda
4) Beijing Lu shopping & also discovering the old roads underneath
5) Tianhe shopping district
6) 5pm train ride to shenzhen

Do u think my timing OK?

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Which and when.

by Guantanamera

If learning to use the chopsticks isn't tricky enough, try figuring out when to use them... Usually the chopsticks are used but then again, there is the rice ladle... And sometimes the Chinese will just use their fingers, as you see in this photo of Xiujuan about to merrily devour one of her favorite things, a succulent crab claw...! The Chinese also sometimes use the fingers for things such as sweet rolls or eating food at McDonald's... But ultimately, there is one great advantage to being a foreigner... You're not expected to be Chinese. So forget about rules and just do what seems natural...!

Dine with the Great Masturbator

by Guantanamera about The Greenery Cafe

The Greenery Cafe is a Chinese restaurant chain of which there are multiple locations in Guangzhou. This review concerns the location on Jiaochang Xilu, across the street from China Plaza. Located in an underground shopping center, this Greenery Cafe is notable for its many huge reproductions of Salvador Dali masterpieces which line the walls, among them, "The Persistence of Memory", "The Temptation of St. Anthony", "Suburbs of a Paranoiac-Critical Town", and, most auspiciously, "The Great Masturbator" (pictured here). The food at this restaurant is an eclectic mix of Asian and Western cuisines, including steaks, soups, curries, vegetarian options, and a diverse selection of desserts. Service is reasonable as are prices. The overall ambience is quite good, with low key lighting in most tables and booths. Menus are in Chinese and English.

Flora of Guangzhou Orchid Garden.

by Guantanamera

Of course, the essential highlight of any great botanical garden would have to be those uncanny masters of photosynthesis, the plants themselves... Awesome in their physical structure and aesthetic, the exotic plants of Guangzhou Orchid Garden will surprise and delight you! Orchids are the star attraction, but there are also over 300 other species including creepers, rare flowers, luxuriant bushes, and sleek bamboos...
