Classic Hotel
Victory Hotel is on the Shamian Island, which was built by the British in early 20th century. It's a pink building, not tall but looks very classic.
Victory Hotel's price is very reasonable and service is neat! What's more, they are a hotel who are very kind to be willing to help orphans in China. They are so nice to offer their hotel's garden (see pic) for free for an upcoming charity activity to help with fundraising dedicated for Chinese orphans.

Great Hotel, Great Value
Guangdong Victory Hotel is a great hotel situated on Shamian Island.
I have stayed there a few times as I love the location, it’s an oasis of tranquillity bang in the middle of the craziness of Guangzhou! Shamian Island is not so much an island just a section of paved streets separated from the main hub by a small canal, however the peaceful feeling is magnified by the trees and lack of cars as Guangzhou is so choked everywhere else. The setting of old colonial buildings once used as the embassy district and is very unusual for China.
It is very near the Qing Ping market, though since the Sars virus there’s nothing much to look at there apart from dried fish food. It’s about 20 minutes in a taxi from the Garden Hotel and is a 5 minute walk to the nearest metro.
Have only stayed in the Main building on the 7th floor and it is a lovely hotel with great staff and the extra little touches such as closing the curtains and turning the lights on in your room while you are out in the evening so it is cosy when you return make it all the more homely and relaxing.
I have stayed in many hotels in Guangzhou and this hotel can not be beaten for the money.
It has good broadband and cable TV. Only down side is last time I was there the pool and gym on the roof were closed for winter.
100% recommend this hotel to everyone, business, couples, family.

Better than expected
We booked the hotel thru asiatravel.com and paid RMB$380 a night for a double bed. Located on Shamian Island, the hotel is clean and service is good. The nearest subway station is Huang Sha which is about a 10-15 minutes walk. What I particularly like about the location is after a day of running around, it feels good to return to somewhere quiet, away from the hustle and bustle. Rooms amenities are standard, hair dryer, kettle, TV (cable), dressing table, free internet connection........ The little extras are, umbrella, slippers, bathropes. Housekeeping is twice a day and they change your towels everyday. Towels are sealed in plastic bags, so is the bathropes and slippers!
Service is good, at least to me. I have forgotten to bring a socket adapter for my mp3 player and a phone call to housekeeping solved my problem. Front desk is also attentive to your neeeds and request, much better than some I came across.
The only complain that I have is the whole place smells of cigarette smoke and there isnt a non-smoking floor. The room smells like a pub. When you lie down on the the pillow, the smells can be a lttle overwhelming.

Victory Hotel
Unique Quality: Right in the heart of Shaiman Island, overlooking the river/canal that separates the Island from Guangzhou. Right across the bridge is the market. There is an old and a new section - stay in the new one.

Nice Quiet Lovely Accommodation
GZ Victory Hotel is actually two buildings (one is the main & the other is the annexe buidling).
I'd reserved thru their web-site(registered as their members) for a 380RMB deluxe room..
It's spacious and the early morning - when I was aawoken by the lovely chipping of birds---the feeling is totally different as compared when I was staying at Garden Hotel...
A definite steal for a 4 * stay, the only down side is its location, as it is located at the Shamian Island...not really an island - iits actually away from the main traffic , its one way traffic in Shamain island.
Unique Quality: Great & spacious room, clean, tidy and far away from city traffic yet rather convenient as the walk to LRT is abt 10 minutes.

THE HOTEL AND MY ROOM WAS FINE, KING SIZE BED, COMPUTER WITH INTERNET, FREE BREAKFAST Buffet with Asian type plus a cook making eggs-omelet.fresh fuits.juice,coffee.tea.toast.cookies,cerals.

Hi, can anyone give me any information about the Guangdong Victory Hotel?
How do I get there from the airport?
Is it expensive to take a taxi from the hotel to the shopping areas?

This hotel is located in the Sha Mian, the used-to-be embassy area, which is quite popular to foreigners.
The hotel is a little bit old. To get there from the airport is not convenient, you have to take airport express to Haizhu Plaza (Please check if it's Line 6A). And take a taxi to Guangdong Victory Hotel. (Around RMB 15 yuan )
For shopping area, the nearest one is called Shang-Xia-Jiu shopping area. This is a long walking-only street. The buildings and shops along the streets are of traditional Guangzhou style. But goods are of low class.
To get to another shopping area Beijing Road needs around RMB 25 yuan by taxi. Around half an hour.
Generally, the location is at the edge of the city center, translation just so so, not very convenient. 15-20 mins to the MTR station by walking.
