ATMs any problems withdrawing money?

by niallwb

Hello, I'll be travelling to Guangzhou from the U.K on Wednesday 18th, staying at the Fortuna hotel in Foshan. I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me how easy or difficult it is to find ATMs and once found any problems withdrawing money.

I would prefer to make withdrawals on my visa card as I go along, depending on how much I spend, many thanks

Hi. Guangzhou and Foshan are 2 cities. And I think it is easy to find ATMs in GZ. But not sure if it is same in Foshan. I tried to goole and found this hotel in Foshan but failed. Sometimes there is ATM in hotel.

Good Luck and have a nice trip in China.

Thanks for your reply, I realise Foshan and Guangzhou are seperate but we will be spending time in both. The Fortuna is a newly built 5star hotel which has only recently opened so like you I couldn't find it in google either, hopefully they might have an ATM.

YES. Problems....T.I.C. (This is China)

I live in Guangzhou and have problems everyday. Until you find the one ATM that will work with foriegn cards, you also need to make sure it has money in it. I have run into problems with many ATM's not taking my card. (VISA)

Bank of China ATMs are your best bet.

Just a note, there is a 2500RMB max per day, regardless of what your bank at home allows you to do. My tip, bring 2 ATM cards using different banks. You will be surprised that one will work and one will not.

Another tip, most Chinese ATM machines look for a 6 digit PIN. If you have a four digit PIN and it does not work the first time, try placing two zeros infront of your 4 digits (00XXXX), sometimes it works....

Good luck

I found most Bank of China ATM will take foreign cards on a good day but be sure to have more than one as the ATMs all seem to behave differently. I always try to withdraw enough for a week before leaving the airport, one added danger for foreigners withdrawing at street level ATMs are you will be a good target for pickpockets after.

Foshan is about 60min drive from GZH airport. I live in Foshan though its just been 2 months. Foshan is a nice traditional peaceful city. I used to be in Foshan Hotel, most hotels have a money exchange counter offering the same exchange rates. ATMs are all over FOSHAN or go to any bank with your ATM card n Passport. Always retain the receipt incase you want a refund. BOC or ICBC have over 20 branches and more than 100 ATMs in this lovely city.

If you get stuk, look for those guys on the Motobikes ( its a taxi) , ask him to take u to a bank , they charge just a few RMB , hahaha- I never did that coz always had a car from my company but wud wana go for a ride on these Motorbikes some day.

Western Han Nanyue King Tomb...

by ErnieGal

Western Han Nanyue King Tomb Museum : Discovered in 1983, the Nanyue King Tomb, which dates back to 2,000 years ago, is the earliest large-scale painted stone-chamber tomb ever found in south of the Five Ridges. Buried with the tomb owner in jade shroud are a gold seal and a lot of exquisite jade adornments. It has now become one of the famous museums in the world.

METRO

by jlee008

This is probably one of the fastest and easiest ways to get around Guangzhou. The metro is modern and clean, much like the metro stations in other major citites. The signs are written in both Chinese and Pinyin. It is easy to navigate.

You have to purchase tokens from machines in order to ride the metro. If you don't have change, you can goto one of the booths and they will give you change. However, they don't sell tickets.

It is very convienent since it connects to the main bus station and train station, Guangzhou Dong Zhan (translated as Guangzhou East Train Station). This helps getting in and out of Guangzhou so much easier!!!

Memorial Garden to the Martyrs

by herzog63

This photo was either taken at the Peasant Momement Institute or the Memorial Garden to the Martyrs. They are located quite near each other (easy walk) and both have interesting historical significance in the struggle of the of the Chinese people. There are many gardens, walkways, paths and halls to check out and spend a couple hours learning some historical facts or relaxing in the parks. For me it was a small detour on my day trek to the zoo.

Two consequent trips made in 2002

by Bob_Shan

In 2002, I worked in a small IT software company so my trip to GZ was indeed budget travels.
No much fun expect I met an old friend who was heading to US.
We hadn't seen each other for over 8 years before that gathering. And no idea on how many years ahead our next meet as he is in US now.
