A five-star hotel whichis brand new but may not last the pace. Although the styling is very avant-garde, it all looks a little flimsy. For now it is extremely impressive. The rooms are very big, very modern and very comfortable. Good shower, comfortable bed, good a/c (quiet!) and usual TV channels. Breakfast was excellent. I paid a corporate rate (RMB450) but rates of US$80 are more common. I'd recommend it, as long as the fixtures and fittings continue to be well maintained.
UPDATE: Six months later and it is still great value.
Friendly and attentive service which can be unusual in this kind of hotel in China.
Guangzhou East Station (trains to/from Hong Kong, Dongguan and Shenzhen and elsewhere) is just 50 metres away...just turn right and the entrance to the Hong Kong platform is at that end of the station. if you need cash, note that the ABC branch near the hotel doesn't ever seem to work with cards from other Chinese banks. However, if you walk to the far end of the station building there is an ATM right next door to the McDonalds (can't remember which bank).
