transit visa needed ?
by janiced
Hi, I'm a US citizen travelling from Japan to Sanya, transitting in Guangzhou (and returning via the same route). Do I need a transit visa either coming or going ? I heard that I can get a visa on arrival in Sanya (I'm investigating that as well).
Thanks in advance for the advice !
(I'm still waiting to hear from the embassy in Tokyo)

usally, it depanse on what kind of transiting you are in Guangzhou, staying on aircraft / within airport / out of airport, if you stay inside of the airport(restricted area), a transit visa is not needed. but I think your airline knows the requirment better. go to them.
I heard you can get 3month visa on-arrival in Hainan (the province that Sanyan is in), not sure if it's true, never been there. let us know if is true afterware.

thanks for the info; yeah, I keep hearing I should be able to get the visa on arrival in Sanya ..... but coming through Guangzhou seems risky without a transit visa ..... I've given up the plan and will choose another destination with less travel hassles. (Plus, I'm having a hard time communicating with the Chinese embassy in Tokyo to get the facts.)

Guangdong Museum of Art space
by Guantanamera
The Guangdong Musuem of Art is comprised of three levels and four major rooms on each level, with a general theme or artist focused on in each large room... The space is arranged in such a way that rooms on one level can sometimes be viewed from other levels, by means of a spiral staircase or the like, overlooking balcony, windows, or the like... Shown here, a piece of sensual photography...
Pearl River Boat Trips
by CatherineH
There are a few boats making trips each night most belong to the blue dolfin group. We booked our ticket at the Garden Hotel travel office and the assistant wrote down the adress in Chinese for us to show the taxi driver. So I can't give you an adress for the dock but it was on the north side of the river east of the Landmark Canton Hotel and west of the next bridge. You need to book at lest one or two days ahead as they fill up quickly. It was a 2 hour round trip up the White Swan and down past the Concert Hall. They serve a buffet meal as soon as the boat is moving and then allow you out onto the deck. I have previously described Guangzhou as Birmingham with more neon seeing the city from the river has only confirmed this. Most buildings are lit up at night and there are a few European style Buildings to see alongside the skyscrapers.
The Gateway to China
by jlee008
Guangzhou is the capitol of Guangdong Province in southern China. Development of the city started in the 1920s and it has since flourished since. At the end of the First Opium War between China and the United Kingdom, Guangzhou was one of five ports opened by the Treaty of Nanjing in 1842. It is now part of one of China's leading economic regions known as the Pearl River Delta.
With its model gardens styled in the traditional Chinese manner to its economic strength, Guangzhou is what the Chinese would like to envision as a blueprint for other cities.
Don't miss the many sites that touch on Chinese history. Guangzhou is most well-known all throughout China as having the most amazing edible delicacies that one can imagine. This is certainly true and I challenge you to try some dim sum and have some amazing food at some of its restaurants.
