Location, location, location!!!
We enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Shifu. It was right in the middle of a busy shopping precinct and we found we could walk to most places of interest. The staff were very welcoming and our room was comfortable and clean. We also had a buffet dinner in the hotel which was reasonable and indeed was full of people the night we were there which says something given the large number of restaurants nearby.
On our return we were upgraded to an executive room which was very nice!!
Cost $A 124.00 pn
Unique Quality: Does have a pool, right on a busy shopping street

Historical & Cultural District
This is a very new Hotel ,opened only in April 2006.The rooms are spacious as it was converted from a office building from what i heard.The interiors are tastefully decorated withe a mixture of traditional Chinese and modern mix.It has a nice open air swimming pool on the top level.
My only grouse is that i was told by the hotel security not to take photos of the public areas.This was rectified when I complained to the Manager.STRANGE POLICY INDEED!!!!!!
Hopefully .this situation will not be repeated as otherwise I would have marked it as a Great Experience!
Unique Quality: Spacious rooms ranging from 35 to 52 sq metres.Attentive staff.
It is located on the cultural and historical district of Liwan, near the metro station.Great walks on the pedestrian mall and around the old area facing shaiman Island .Next to the hotel is a market for bonsai plants,aquarium fishes and aquatic plants and puppies.There is also a traditional wholesale market for Chinese herbs.Century old restaurant and cake shops.All within walking distance.

Very good deal!
We booked this hotel through internet (ichotelgroup) and got a clubfloor room incl bf for 50 Euros. The rooms are modern, new and comfortable. Very, very nice and spacious. You can go to the lounge on your floor, free drinks (incl. alcohol) and snacks. In the morning you can choose between breakfast in the lounge or at the restaurant. We went downstairs. Very nice modern and light large restaurant with plenty of choice. Hotel is very well located, you step out of the door and you are in the shopping street.

2 nights business trip. Room was VERY spacious, big plus for the separate shower and bathtub (hate washing my hair in the tub). Huge window separated the bathroom from the room - interesting. Minus: the room was cold even though I turned the air-con off. Good breakfast, very helpful service. Located just off a busy shopping street.

Hotel on the Shopping Street, So Convient!
Like all Holiday Inn Hotels, this one offers the kind of room you can always expect from this company. The King bed room was large, good TV, and excellent bath. The bed had a wide choice of pillows. The restaurant had a good breakfast and buffet dinner for those afraid to hit the streets to find food.

Hol inn is a 4 star hotel,international chain.it's near Shamian island and also u can take a subway to the hotel and also to the pier for the pearl river cruise.I am afraid i can't comment about the other hotel.From the name it sounds like a Chinese Hotel so the service may not be up to International standard.
