Depends on what time and how much luggage you have.

You can walk about 280 meters from Guangzhou railway station to Caonuan Park busstop and there you can take bus NO.271 to Guangzhou east railway station.
Or you may take a taxi. It takes about 30RMB, but I'm not sure.

I will be having no luggage and want to travel in morning

If you have no luggage, then going by metro would be the fastest and cheapest.
Get on metro line 2 at Guangzhou main train station and take it 3 stops south to Gongyuanqian; change to metro line 1 and take it all the way to the final terminus (7 stops) to Guangzhou East train station. Fare is 4 RMB.

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Chinese Money

by herzog63

For me the Money System of china was a little confusing. You've probably already read about the FEC's in my other tips so I won't go into it as they aren't used anymore. The Renminbi seemed to have 3 tiers to it in Paper money. I'm used to dollars and cents which is 2 tiers. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but there are Yuan - Jiao - Fen which are also know as Kwai - Mao - Fen. Yuan is the biggest of the denominations and it is broken into 100 Jiao then below that is Fen and it takes 10 fen to make 1 Jiao. Quite often if I was buying food I would understand the numbers but not the Kwai,Mao or Fen. I did sort of figure it out better after a while but in the beginning I would hand the seller a 10 Yuan note (US$1.90) for a food item that would only cost 4 Mao (US$.07cents) and I would get back a STACK of money!!! hahah I would chuckle to myself and say "Gosh I've done it again". Some very small items only cost a few fen!!! It took 5 Fen to make one US Cent!! I think this system is currently in use today. Again remember this is 1987 so beware of the prices!! The photo is a shot from a page in my 1987 Journal.

One nice thing about Guangzhou...

by LAOWAI

One nice thing about Guangzhou is that you can eat food from all over China, including your favorite Chongqing and XinJiang dishes.
With all this variety comes some very scruptous, cheap meals. But it's never as cheap in Guangzhou as it is back in western China. So hard to choose:

For the runs, go with Hot Pot.

For taste, go with Xin Jiang Noodles.

For delicacy, go with bull pen*s.

For good Chongqing food, try cauliflwer & pork (photo)

Just another pair of modern...

by pjallittle

Just another pair of modern buildings, are they? That;s right. When you expand the picture, see the shanty buildings nearby. The Haves and the Have Nots may be found around the world, no matter how prosperous the Economy.

These little reality checks can be sobering.
