Airport to Guang Zhou hotel in Haizhu Square disrict

by vieviengan

I might be getting a night flight which will be arriving in GZ after 12 midnight , I am just wondering HOW MUCH is it to take a taxi from the airport to Guang Zhou Hotel in Haizhu District , will it be dangerous for us ( both girls ) to arrive this late and take taxi. Are there any mode of transport where I can use at this time besides taxi ?

I don't know the district, but you should definitely go by taxi. Not because Guangzhou is dangerous (it is not more dangerous than any other large city), but GZ is very large. The taxi might cost anything between CNY 150 to 250 depending on distance, check the meter (drivers usually are honest). Don't forget the hotel address in Chinese writing and phone number for the driver.

It is about 40kilometres from the airport to Hiazhu so it will normally take 50 minutes or less at the time you are talking about. Make sure the driver uses the metre and ask for a "Fapiao - pronounced Far peow". This is the invoice. Make sure you get it before you get out of the cab. This will have the registration number of the cab which will be needed if you leave something in it or have a problem.
As suggested previously have the address in Chinese for the cab driver and if you can print a photo of the hotel from the internet then do so as you will know you have found the correct place.

Sorry forgot about the price. I would think around 120-150RMB but it is a while since I have been to Guangzhou.

Safety shouldn't be a problem as you're going straight by taxi from airport to hotel doorstep. There're airport shuttles but they don't run that late.

Airport Express

by walterwu

There are 6 Airport Express Shuttle Bus available in Guangzhou to bring you to and from Baiyun International Airport to designated locations.

The routes map is available on the Baiyun International Airport website.

Fare is 20 RMB/pax and the last bus (Route 5) leaves the Airport at about 20 mins after midnight. Route 6 leaves the Airport about 10 mins after midnight and goes to Tianhe Bus Station. There a hotel next to the bus station which is the Tianhe Dasha.

Route 1 could well be the last bus and will wait until all flight for the day has landed and cleared custom and immigration.

Affordable and better option for large group of more than 5 persons.

If you visit Guangzhou you can't help but spot this skyscraper towering above all others in the city. The CITIC Plaza is presently the 7th tallest building in the world, 3rd in China, at 391m. It's the tallest I've ever seen (Apart from Two International Finance Centre in Hong Kong, but that was still under construction).

This building was clearly built to make a statement and it is quite eerie that the roads and parks around it are almost deserted apart from the odd street cleaner. I'm sure that much of the tower must be unoccupied. It's such a contrast to see this huge, modern building barely two streets away from squalid slums.
