Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Guangzhou's New Private Resort Villages

by coolpanda87

Since the opening of markets in China, mainland & foreign developers have built many residential villages in the vicinity. The price for a villa are relatively cheap (around $ 150 000USD), & the cost of living is also very reasonable too. However, due to the high number of stock still available, 2nd hand real estate depreciate really fast. Don't think of it as an investment, for prices will still take over a decade to stabilize.

The residential villages offer a lot of amenities, including sports centres, restaurants, parks etc.

There are open house tours that you could join in Hong Kong to visit them. Usually, the tours are inexpensive, for most of the profit comes from pitching potential buyers.

Thanks to VT member Confucious, I was able figure out that the village I visited in English is called Country Garden. Thanks again!

Banana Leaf Curry House

by Guantanamera about Banana Leaf Curry House

Banana Leaf Curry House is a chain of superb Thai restaurants that are popular in the Guangzhou area... Banana Leaf has a huge menu, loaded with interesting Thai specialties, as well as a few options from other Southeast Asian countries such as their delectable Malaysian satay...! Their fresh coconut juice is always good, and usually the best place to get coconut juice in Guangzhou... This restaurant also features some live entertainment in the form of singing and dancing by the staff members themselves who sometimes get the customers involved...!

Located in subtropical zone, Guangzhou is favored with a great variety of tropical and subtropical fruits. Fresh fruits are always availabe all year around, such as litchi, banana, pinepaple, carambola, longan, sweet orange and papaya.

Litchi is one of my favor fruit, and I've taken a special travel line to taste the fresh nonsuch with friends last year.

Line A(litchi tasting group)
Zencheng Litchi Garden -- Hexiangu (fairy He) Temple -- Feiguo Buddha Temple -- Flowers Manor

"Local Culture"

Cantonese Opera in Guangdong came into being on the basis of local aboriginal theatre combined with vocal melody from other regions and folk singing and storytelling skills. Present day Cantonese opera centers on Bangzi and Erhuang tunes (Two of major Chinese opera tunes) supplemented with local Ballads and rich varieties of local vocal system.

One theater I've been for the opera: Guangzhou Nanfang Theatre, located at the junction of Jiaoyu Road and Xihu Road, Beijing Road area

"International Dragon Boating Race"

Guangzhou International Dragon Boating race, sponsored by the Guangzhou Municipal Government, takes place on the section of the Pearl River between the Liberation Bridge and People's Bridge once a year.
