From airport to town

by lzxian

Hi all,

I am travelling to Guangzhou on Nov and this is my first time to the city.
May I know what is the best transportation from the airport to the city?

I will be travelling with my wife and a child.

Besides that, I am also looking for a 3 star hotel in the city. Does anyone had any recommendation?

Budget is about US50 per night.

Thanks

There are 8 express lineS from airport to downtown of Guangzhou , the price is between RMB15 and RMB36. If you want to get to the downtown of Guangzhou fastly, you could try to get there by Taxi for RMB100 approximately.About the informations of hotel in Guangzhou city, could go to www.ctrip.com for English version for more details about the price and date of local three stars or above hotel.Hope that what I said could offer more help for you. good luck.

There are plenty of 3-star hotels all over the city. Expect to pay about 250RMB (US$40).

Airport bus is comfortable and frequent, but you need to know where you are going to take the correct one. They are easy to find outside the arrivals hall, by door 9.

try guangzhou hotel in haizhu square. www.gzhotel.com.cn. standard room is around$44, right outside the hotel is the metro station. very convenient. and a mcdo rest and 7-eleven store.

"Best" is relative. How old is your kid? How much luggage will you have?
Assuming that your kid is still relatively young (ie not like, 20-something years old!) and you'll have a fair bit of luggage, and that you know which hotel you want to go to, the best would probably to take a taxi.

KONGFU TEA
When you are in...

by Chris_Dahlia

KONGFU TEA
When you are in Shantou, something you must try is their 'Kongfu tea'. Here it is not 'fighting tea'. 'Kongfu' in Shantou Dialect has another meaning - doing things that really test your skills and patience. You can see, making Kongfu tea is not an easy job. They use very small tea cups and tea pot with boiled water to make tea. It is the most common way to make tea in all the families there.

On leafy Shamian Island

by Willettsworld about Starbucks!

Yes, I know but as I was staying in the Youth Hostel on Shamian Island nearby, I popped in here for breakfast as it was just down the road. The building is a beautiful old colonial building with a kind of Moorish feel. They do everything you get in any other Starbucks around the world. They do some good cinnamon rolls which I ate for breakfast washed down with a cappuccino and you can sit outside in nice comfy chairs along the veranda and watch the locals go about their morning business. One morning, they had a certain type of coffee for free and I ended up with two free coffees plus the one I bought so I was buzzing for the rest of the day!

Memorial Garden to the Martyrs

by Willettsworld

About 4km/2.5mi east of the city centre, on Zhongshan Lu, a 26ha/64 acre cemetery was laid out in 1957 for the victims of the Canton uprising which was led by the Communist party in 1927. The 5700 people shot by the Guomindang government are now buried in a tumulus. In addition the memorial park also contains a pavilion (1957) dedicated to Sino-Soviet friendship and one (1964) to Sino-Korean friendship. These are intended as a reminder that Russians and Koreans also lost their lives in the uprising.

Open: 8am-7pm. Admission: RMB3.
