Macau-Shenzhen

by chiahuiteng

"Macau"

Speaks only Chinese (Cantonese)...a very small small, probably a day will suffice here. Weather in September is really hot.

Have wrote a more detailed travel journal here:

http://www.infinitelymany.blogspot.com

Drop me a message on my above blog if you need more details.

"Shenzhen"

Took a ferry (Turbojet) across to Shekou, Shenzhen from Macau. You will need Visa to enter Shenzhen, but not Macau.

Shenzhen has more places to visit and it's probably worth a two to three days visit.

Have wrote about Window of the World, hotel (Metropark), Dongmen shopping and eating in my blogspot:

I meant for you to print them out so that you can show them to taxi drivers/concierge for them to know where you want to go.

cycling in vietnam

by Kazeneko

Aloha
we (me and my friend) are planning to travel asia jan-may and one of the things we would like to do is bike in vietnam. I know the roads around the mekong delta are really straight and good for biking but does anyone have any experience with the Highway 1??? And since we are travelling longer than just vietnam can we buy our bikes there?
I hope someone can help us out. We did already buy the lonely planet bike book for there.

Thanks
karin

Hi Karin,

If your first arrival in Vietnam is Ho chi Minh City (SGN - ex Saigon) then you can buy the bike at Pham Hong Thai St. opposite of the New World hotel. The range is $50-120 depending on your choice of percentage of imported accessories. You can drop first at De Tham St., (Sinh Cafe area) and may have a chance to buy a second-hand bike from the ad-posters of other fellow guys.

The Highway 1 and most national roads are smooth enough but you should practice your nerves and reflex first before riding: Buses and trucks can swerve to the roadsides anytime they see potential customers or to leave way for other heavy vehicles overpassing in the opposite lanes. If they see you as foreigner may be they allow you more safety margins than to us the local people :)). Enjoy your travel in Vietnam!
