Transport from Guangzhou to Shantou

by lolo0

Hi,

We would like to travel from Guangzhou to Shantou by bus. Is there any direct/express bus service to Shantou from Guangzhou?

Where can I board the bus, buy ticket(how much?), how long is the journey etc?

Need as much information as possible.

Thank you.

Yes, there are the bus services you want. You can board it at the Guangdong Province Bus Station which is very close to the main train station of Guangzhou (not the Tianhe train station). The ticket can be bought at the bus station, and the price is about 160 RMB (20 USD). The journey takes about 4.5 hours.

There are other bus stations where you can find a bus to Shantou. Ask local people for the closest one.

The websites that I look at for bus schedules would be in Chinese, if any. Do you read Chinese?

Would prefer in English. But Chinese should be no problem too.

Please give me the websites.

Thank you.

Plug in name of city (in Chinese) and "长途客运" in Google, and try your luck. That's what I always do!

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Mao's Institute for Peasant...

by Kibster

Mao's Institute for Peasant Revolt. Located on the site of a 14th Century Confucian monastery, it is very peaceful in the midst of this bustling city. The pictures of these students, nearly all of whom died very young and violently, along with the restored dorms and classrooms, is very moving and helps you understand the passions behind the Communist Revolution. Just taking my Fodor's guide and wandering the streets, looking for places referenced.

Guangzhou's new airport

by mke1963

Guangzhou's new airport is absurdly huge. The cavernous central building could possibly be the biggest indoor hall in Asia, and the two parallel wings (A and B) are each bigger than most other airports in the world.
It really is difficult to adequately convey the scale of this airport. It is numbing on the legs, even with the numerous moving walkways.
The cost of cooling this building must be incredible as it is mostly glass.
The airport - which is a stunning design - is a masterpiece of form over substance, as there are very, very few convenient services. In the arrivals hall, the coffee shops are at the very far ends of the hall (maybe 500 metres apart!!) with little in-between.
The ONLY ATM machine that accepts foreign cards (Cirrus, Maestro, etc) is on the top (entrance level) of the departure building just by Check-In Desk Row N. There is another ATM for Chinese cards alongside the enrance to the International Departures section. It is a damn long walk to either from the arrivals hall (you have to go up to the second floor and cross the bridge).

Chen Jia Ci.

by Guantanamera

Chen Jia Ci, known in English as the Chen Clan Academy, is a large estate of traditional Chinese buildings that was once owned by the famous Chen family, one of the wealthiest families in Chinese history... There are a total of 19 buildings on the property, most of which now house various artifacts and art works on display... The image here shows one such artwork, an amazing painting of flowers and butterflies on silk, framed within intricate woodwork...

First trip in 1998

by Bob_Shan

I have been to Guangzhou for many times. Firstly in 1998, when I just started my career in Johnson and Johnson medical China. My stay that time was very short - just a half days, and left without able to recognize where is the north.
