Packing List
It's very hot and humid during August and subject to sudden rain showers. I recommend bringing an umbrella or rain jacket as well as clothing made from quick-drying fabrics like Microfiber or CoolMax.

Hi all,
I am visiting guangzhou in the second week of may and will be staying at Lido hotel. I have a 2 questions to ask..
1) Is there airport coaches where I can take to Lido hotel? if not, what is the rate for taxi?
2) I will be going to hongkong from GZ and plan to make train from gz east station. How do I do to the east station from Lido hotel by subway?
Hope to get a reply soon!
Thank you!
1) None direct to the hotel, but you could take one that arrives close, and transfer to a taxi. What time is your flight arriving?
2) Take a taxi to the nearest metro stop and then the metro to Guangzhou East train station. If you have a lot of luggage I would suggest that you take taxi all the way instead.
Lido Hotel is on Beijing lu. Nearest metro stop is Haizhu Square (haizhuguangchang) on line 2. To get to East railway station, take line 2 direction San yuan li then change to line 1 at gongyuanqian, direction railway station east. You can also get a bus to HK from Haizhu square, outside Canton Landmark Hotel, and from China Hotel, on line 2 at Yuexiu station.
Airport bus route 5 goes to Guangdong hotel, which is a short taxi ride from the Lido hotel. A taxi from the airport to the Lido hotel would be in excess of 100RMB.
Hi all,
My flight will arrive morning 1030am.
I have another question, I will be taking train from Guangzhou East Station to Hong Kong. May i know how should i purchase the train tickets? Must i purchase personally at the train station it self? And is there any shopping areas around the East station ? Thanks for all the help!
There's a dedicated ticket office at East railway station. I only went that way once, and the train was pretty empty, so no problems about turning up and boarding. You do need to be there a bit early though, as you go through passport control etc. before boarding.
There are 15 trains a day I think, first is at 8:20 last is at 21:27 and the journey is scheduled to be around 1h40. Fare is 190RMB I think. Bus (to Prince Edward) takes about 2h30 but costs only 80RMB.
What sort of shopping do you mean? Ikea is a short walk from East station. Not much else, apart from US visa office and a few banks.
hey all..
thank you so much for ur replies! =)

Our day commenced with a 6:40am pick up at our hotel and we were soon at the Hong Kong Ferry Terminal which was extremely crowded. My immediate thoughts were how lucky we were to have a guide negotiating us through this chaos. A visa and passport was required to pass through customs and board the large catamaran for the 50 minute ride to Shekou ( Shenzhen).
The highlight of the day tour was viewing the exhibit of 4 Terra Cotta Warriors, something totally unexpected and a national treasure of China.
Amongst the other highlights was the walk through a side street in an old part of the city and see the remnants of city life of 50 years ago. The giant Panda was a favourite.
Much of the tour was concentrated upon modern history and the establishment of modern China. Not really what I wanted to see and do, however it was what I expected.
We were disappointed with the amount of air pollution, smoke stacks everywhere and many of the local residents wearing face masks.
