how to identify fake notes

by gzsz

Read from this forum that fakenotes are common in guangzhou, any advise how to identify them? Is it true that they are in 50 or 100notes only? Even atm can give out fakenotes?

Look for watermark inside the bill.
Most fakes are 50 or 100 notes. It's not worth to fake 10 or 20 notes, and most people don't pay attention on those notes also.
In most cases, it's safe for the notes get from bank or ATM.

In additional,
You be carefull 100 yuan,In Guangzhou.
About this note,It is a little bit soft, thin and small.
Last time,I get it from unauthorized maney chenger in the market.
And my frind,he get from the deposit return from the Chinese overseas Hotel
When you get the new 100 yuan note, you need to check it.
About the old note,it is almost no problem for the fake.
But the old note has missing the parts,it can not be accept 100 percent value.
In china, there are many broken notes!!
But it is OK for the repaired notes by plastic tape. ??????
Some times, the shops can not accept brokn notes.

If you take the pieces of a note to a bank, they should exchange another one for you.

Interesting...

Will be in China the end of this yr but i have never been before,
So do you guys recommend to ONLY exchange the money at authorised money changer? How to identify an authorised money changer in China?

Also, i can possibly avoid this problem if i were to ask the change (from retail) in 20's or smaller rather than in 50's. Is this correct?

Thx

The security watermarks are both on the left side of each $100 note.

On the $100 rmb bill - There are two pictures of Mao. One is the obvious big red one on the right side of the bill. On the left side there is a hidden one that you can't easily see that is a watermark picture of Mao. Hold the note in front of a light source and you should see it. A very faint outline of this watermark picture can also be seen without holding it in front of a light.

A similiar water mark of "100" is also adjacent to the shiny green 100. This green 100 should be shiny/reflective is on the lower left corner of the note.
Checking a bill should take 1/2 a second once you have seen these watermarks. That's $1200 bills per minute?

In response to Isz: If you are asking if a retailer would give you change in 20's instead of 50's then the answer is: most likely not. There are a few reasons why - the foremost one is trust. You are saying you do not trust the retailer. You are also saying that you are too lazy to check the note for yourself. You are also saying - I don't care if you run out of change for the next customers. So depending on the type of establishment and transaction you may offend the retailer.

hhmmm

thank so much for the reply. It makes sense now..

Well, i think i will just exchange my dollars to RMB here before i depart and ask them in 50's, just to be safe....

Thanks

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

7-11

by Guantanamera about 7-11

The famous American convenience store, 7-11, has an extensive presence in Guangdong Province, but their prices are even cheaper than in the United States... For example, a can of Fanta costs only about USD .30...! Easy to buy snack foods and cold drinks as well as other items of daily need...

Yuexiui Park and the Zenhai Tower

by herzog63

Yuexiu Park is a nice place to spend a pleasant afternoon. There are lot's of interesting things to see here as it's a huge park. The Zenhai Tower,Sculpture of the Five Rams and the Sun Yatsen Monument were the highlights for me and also just people watching.
The Zenhai Tower was sort of interesting as was built during the Ming Dyanasty. Currently it houses a museum that has some decent displays. I had a hard time to know what things were as everything was written in Chinese but still interesting to look at. There were 5 floors of displays. I only visited 3 floors and called it good enough.

WHITE SWAN HOTEL

FOR EXACT TIME ANYWHERE [CLICK] BANNER

This was to be our last stop on a "Just the two of us" tour of China. It is a part of the world that will always have special memories for us.

We are especially thankful to the wonderful people at the LAP MING TRAVEL AGENCY located in Hong Kong who took my handwritten itinerary by fax, prepared after weeks of studying brochures, and won a "bidding contest" which resulted in a 'just the two of us' visit to China and many of its wonders. We will certainly return again.

Working in conjunction with the CHINA INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL SERVICE we experienced a guided tour through many cities and towns with a new guide in each of these. It is known as a "meet and greet" service. No matter the mode of travel, you are met and greeted by your tour guide. He or she has been provided with continuing updates by Central Hdqtrs., and recognizes her charges the moment you arrive, almost spooky.

But little wonder. The CITS of today was once the arm of the Government of the People's Republic responsible for keeping tabs on foreigners, much in the form of a KGB operation. They still know how, believe me.

Our final destination hotel was the famous WHITE SWAN HOTEL renowned not only for the beauty which is striking, but for the clientele that it has served over the years. Many of the most well known National Leaders and others of celebrity have walked through the doors of this hotel.

Putting us up at the White Swan was a last minute change in our itinerary, we had not expected it and did not even realize that we were going there. Our itinerary suggested that we were going to be at a different hotel, and this came as a surprise to us. That is exactly what the travel agent wanted it to be, it was as a GIFT from the folks at Lap Ming International Travel Service that all of this had been arranged without our knowledge. We found out about it when we got there.

And it was not just an ordinary Standard room, either, it was definitely in the high end of the scale. Thus we overlooked the Pearl River.
