Guangzhou Sheng Travel itineary

by esboonk

Hi again, im planning my Guangzhou itineary with my family currently and i saw some suggestion to visit "Chaozhou about 1 - 2 days and 2-3 days for the Hakka roundhouses around (not IN) Yongding area should be sufficient for most travellers."

any idea if there are travel agencies there to do that there during my stay from 11 - 16 Apr?

how much would it cost?

do it at the end of your stay; the Canton Fair starts April 15 and GZ will get ugly fast. Enjoy

Tks. and yeah, i heard, so im planning to get out of town by 14 apr.

Planning to visit Chaozhou and see some of the Hakka round house as suggested. However, i was hoping to get a tour agent to help to organise the trip and accomodation. any recommendations?

Hi, I'm a university student studying Guangzhou.Welcome to China.I haven't traveled with any travel agency to Chaozhou and Hakka myself, so I am not able to provide you with detail information about the travel and the service of the agencies. I have just gone through some newspapers and websites for you and found a travel agency organizing a two-day trip to Meizhou, which includes seeing Hakka roundhouses on the second day, during your stay, but I don't know whether the Hakka roundhouses referred to are around Yongding area. Another less well-known travel agency are found to have organized a three-day trip with Chaozhou and Hakka both included, but the website is outdated. I've no idea whether they are still organizing this trip. I have left a message on line and I'm waiting for their reply. The cost I saw on both website is around 300~400RMB for each adult. If you need some further information, you can write me E-mail, maybe I can consult the agency for you if needed.

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Yi De Rd - wholesale shopping experience!

by jackiesg

Yi De Lu and areas near Yi De Lu is where you will find many, Many wholesale malls and shops. Yi De Lu is famous for its stationeries and gifts wholesale market. There are at least 6 shopping complexes, some 6 storeys high, all selling stationeries, decors, toys, gifts etc etc. If it's your first time there, I guarantee you that you'll be overwhelmed! You will!

Again, as I mentioned about shopping in wholesale markets, they usually sell in bulk and bargaining power is not on your side. If you just want to buy one or two, their retail price would be much higher than wholesale price or they may not even want to entertain you. Of course, if you are really going to buy in bulk for businesses, aha, you'll be spoilt with choices. Many of the shops sells similar things and so you are able to compare prices.

Not only that, there is also a dried seafood wholesale market along the road.

Behind Yi De Lu, there's also a major shoe wholesale market.

And near to Yi De Lu, the Tai Kang Lu, I spotted a wholesale mall (Tai Kang Cheng) that sells all the girls accessories like crunchies, hair clips, necklaces, beads, belts etc etc. And beside this mall is another wholesale market that sells all those toilets parts like pipes, bathtub, toiletbowls etc.

I can't describe enough, go see it for yourself! The photo shows one of the aircon stationery mall at Yi De Lu. Stationeries, keychains, soft toys, purses, decors, clocks, etc etc They transact only in cash. So bring enough cash.

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

by xiquinho

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was built in 1931 in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Father of China who was the leader in overthrowing the Qing Dynasty. The whole building, octagonal in shape, is of typical Chinese architectural style. At the center of the hall stands the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and hangs a plaque with the golden words of "The Whole World as a Community", which was inscribed by Dr. Sun.

MODERN CHINA

by LAOWAI

This was my second trip back to China since I left in 1999 under the cover of darkness. See ChingQing Page for details of that experience.

China seems to be rapidly 'modernizing.' By modernizing I mean it's turning into cement. The past is being demolished to make room for the future, and it's happening quickly.

Guangzhou really lives up the all the propoganda China puts out on being 'civilized.' Compared to most places in China, well, it didn't feel much like China at all.

But one thing that all Chinese cities have that is a sure give away that you are in China- THE CITY RULES (see photo).
