HOTEL WITHOUT PRE-BOOKING IN GUANGZHOU

by lovejet

I shall be arriving Guangzhou on the first day of the Canton Fair, what are the chances of getting a hotel without prior booking in the region $100-$200 ?
What areas/hotels are possible on this within the commercial area and close to the Fair ?

You may get a cancellation but it is likely to be hard.

The Canton fair is pretty popular and very busy time for hotels. If you can pre-book, it would be better. I know of some business man that attend that fair year after year and they see many of the same groups return. Cheers Tommyx

Although it is a pain in the backside it may turn out to be easier to stay in Shenzhen and get a bus up to Guangzhou Est bus station and take the metro to the fair.

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Ancient site of FD (Foreigners’ District)

by l_joo

FanFangYiZhi (Ancient site of foreigners’ district)
Ancient site of foreigners’ district (ASFD) is located at Guangta Lu, the street of the oldest mosque Huaisheng Si. Guangta Lu (or Guangta road) during the Tang-Soong dynasty (7th-10th century) was a special appointed lane/road specifically reserved for foreign traders, their families, relatives, workers, etc, where most coming from Persia and Arabs with many stayed decades in Guangzhou, some had families while some married and became permanent resident. Guangta Lu was a gathering point for all foreigners then, the Tang history recorded these foreigners were multimillionaires living extreme lavish lifestyle and once their population reached ‘wan’ (more than ten thousands). I visited Guangta Lu and saw their descendants, they are known as Chinese Hui Muslim. So, if you are looking for Persian or Arabian descendants, this is the place.

New International Airport

by SLLiew

The new Baiyun International airport started running in 2004 and located 28km from downtown. There are 7 express bus lines, most routes at 20 yuan. Also a direct bus to Zhuhai.

There is a medical clinic, post office and left luggage.

One of the newest airport in China and much improved than the old Bai Yun Airport.

Hui Neng at Guangxiao Si.

by Guantanamera

Guangxiao Si has been a famous Buddhist temple and pilgrimage site for millenia... It was one of the temples where the famous Chan (Chinese Zen) master Hui Neng practiced during the 7th century (circa 676 A.D.) and he even had his hair cut at this very place...! Shown here, a detail view of the large golden Buddha of the temple...
