Train, Kowloon to Guangzhou

by damcoinc

We need to travel from Hong Kong Airport (ar 0700) to Guangzhou Airport (lv 1700) on 15 May 2007. Is the train from Kowloon to Guangzhou a good way to go? Am I correct that we go through China Mainland Customs at the Kowloon Train Station (Hong Hom)? We can take a Taxi from Guangzhou East to the airport. How much should the taxi cost? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi...Catch the City Bus no 21a from HK airport into Kowloon, this bus travels along Nathan Road and costs 33HKD. It might even finish at Hung Hom you will need to ask. Yes,you go through Chinese Customs at Hung Hom as long as your visa is OK no problem. There are up to a dozen or so trains from Hung Hom daily.
It takes almost two hours and costs 190HKD. Take a taxi to Guangzhou airport from the station it is worth the cost. If you have the time it is possible to catch a bus. Taxis are not expensive in China (Don't forget to have the Airport address written in Chinese to show the taxi driver)
Have a good trip.

there are buses from HK airport to Guangzhou; it is crazy to travel to Hung Hom to take train. Enjoy!

I think the fastest and most economic way is:

to take a bus from HK airport to Guangzhou city (get off at Guangzhou Grand China Hotel) -- around HKD 230.00 , 3-4 hours

take the Airport Express (shuttle bus) from Guangzhou Grand China Hotel to Guangzhou Airport -- around RMB 30.00, 45 min

Thanks to all who replied to our questions. We have decided that the train is better than the bus. Travel time and cost is about the same either way. Getting through customs might be easier in the Hung Hom train station and the train is more comfortable. Read some negative comments about the border crossing on the bus and the lack of toilet breaks.

We are doing opposite way. Arriving to Guangzhou on 15th June and heading strait to Hong Kong for a week. Then back to Guangzhou for two weeks.
We will take a taxi from airport to Guangzhou Eastern Station(Is the train to HK departing from there? ).Is it easy to buy train tickets from there or should I buy them from web beforehand? Thank You.We are travelling with kids.

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Shang Xia Jiu Lu (Up Down 9 Road), Guangzhou ...

by Teenniee

Lots of shoppings. Small size clothing for chinese market though. Tons and Tons of shoe shops
dirt cheap.. Very crowded especially on Weekends. you can barely pass through the crowds.. and for goodness dont let it rain, you'll never get anywhere. I think it is cheaper than beijing lu. but the crowds is a hassle.. prices here are set in the shops, no haggling.
They also have a several jade jewlrey markets within.

Catching a taxi from this shopping district is the most difficult thing you can imagine... you almsot have to fight for one. really. Also within this pedestrian street is a huge mall which goes underground and connect to the most huge accessory wholesale and bead market ever
this mall also have a few bead shops within as well and will cater to you more so, because they have very few street traffic in their shops. I bought lots of necklaces , even tiger eye and had them made to my liking. They sell strands one, one and you can bargin here.

With all this shopping i just wish they had more more usa size clothing and nice dresses. everything was very hiphop, punk and korean style clothes. No fake name brand clothing here either.. (atleast from what i saw) $2-10 on shoes

Qing Ping Market again....

by herzog63

A visit to the Qing Ping Market is also a great place to "People Watch". You can see the different styles of food that locals buy so they can prepare their daily meals. Seemed like fish was a popular item at the times that I visited. I love fish so I was interested in seeing the many kinds of fish that were available. I only got to eat it a couple times though.
Many times you will see the ladies coming to the market as a group of friends and they shopped together and made the deals with the butchers and vendors on the meats and vegetables. Notice the guy in the photo is smoking a cigarette while he works.

Stuck on Shaiman Island!

by kimberbakos

Since we were in Guangzhou for only two and half days, and were there to finalize our adoption, we didn't make it off of Shaiman Island. So my tip and travels were quite limited, but I will share them with you anyway.
