Bus or other travel from Guangzhou to Macau - Online bookings

by TravellingGran

In July I am staying overnight at the Holiday Inn Shifu in Guangzhou. We intend travelling to Macau the next day. We will have been in China for about 10 days prior to that travelling in from Hong Kong to Shenzen and up to Shanghai before going to Guangzhou and then to Macau.

I have been told by the Chinese Consulate in Australia that in order to get a visa for China I need to have tickets purchased showing how I am going into mainland China and then out of China. I have my ticket from Hong Kong into China (by ferry) but need to book a ticket from Guangzhou to Macau. We had planned to buy tickets once we got to China but this is no longer acceptable. To get the visa I must have tickets in and out of mainland China before they will issue the visa.

I've looked for a bus company which pre-books online between Guangzhou and Macau so I can take the ticket/proof of exit to Macau to the Consulate. I found one site but it doesn't appear to let me book online.

Help needed to get an online booking company - preferably bus, but all help on travle methods appreciated. It must be somewhere I can book online though.

Many thanks for advice.

Booking online for bus tickets in China is unheard-of. Operators here will just think you're crazy. They won't care about your visa application requirements.
What other travellers in the same situation have been doing is to buy cheap throw-away flight tickets (eg on AirAsia) to satisfy the visa requirements.

Thank you for that. I was thinking I'd have to do that or get an intercity train ticket from Guanzhou back to Hong Kong and throw that away and get my bus ticket once I get there.

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

Packing List

by jevdsnny

It's hot, dress light. Tough to buy a camera here. Mostly 220V, although the good hotels have converters. Buy a GSM cell phone and get a local sim chip. It will be a couple hundred dollars, but if you are stranded in the middle of no where and dont speak the local dialect, you will be happy you have it.

Xiao Long Bao

by jackiesg about Lao Ban Zhang (means old class leader)

This is a very local eatery specializing in Xiao Long Bao. Very local eatery ambience with small round tables and stools, simple to nearly no decors and also at a local price.

Their menu is very limited. Around 6 types of Xiao Long Bao, one type of Millet porridge and 20 over kinds of small cold dishes. Well, since their Xiao Long Bao is good and so famous that all tables ordered the same food, there's really no need to have more variey like noodles, rice etc.

As I mentioned, this eatery offers good Xiao Long Bao at local price. For a big tray of 10 Xiao Long Baos, they are selling at RMB10. For this price, you get to enjoy 10 big and juicy traditional Xiao Long Bao! I would also highly recommend the millet porridge. The porridge looked very oily from far because it's yellow in colour, but after tasting it then i realised that it's because it's made of millet which explains the colour. The porridge is smooth and light, suitable to go with the various cold dishes that they offered. Pork Xiao Long Bao (strong flavor) - They have strong and light favour, differences lies with the oil they used in the Bao. Stong favour uses sesame oil while light favour uses peanut oil.

Millet porridge - Goes very well with the Xiao Long Bao and the small cold dishes they sell.

University Life

by Guantanamera

A great way to get to know any culture is to explore the universities and see how the young students live... Just as a visit to Harvard, Berkeley, Cambridge or the Sorbonne can give you a glimpse into Western culture, a visit to South China Normal University in Guangzhou can show you a lot about conditions in the People's Republic... University students are very friendly and you can also find very cheap and tasty food at the restaurants...
