Bookshop (Xin Hua)
by l_joo
Bookshop (Xin Hua) is a good place to 'lepak' at Guangzhou. Lepak means wasting time or spending your time freely. There are many bookshop of large size in GZ with probably 99.99% books in Chinese, books are all open for reading not as in Malaysia where most books were wrapped to ensure customers cannot read the content.
Bus route signboard
by jackiesg
To know where the bus is going is very easy if you understand chinese. The bus route signboard, found in all GZ's bus station can be considered very passenger friendly. The top of the signboard tells you the name of the bus station you're currently at. On the left of the signboard in dark green background, the nos. indicates the bus no. available at this bus station. It also shows the bus fare and the operating time for this bus. To the right of each bus no is a list of all the stations this bus will travel.
They have day buses and night buses. Day buses may end around 10 pm while night buses may end around 1 to 2 am.
The bus station you are currently at will be highlighted in red on each bus route list. All bus stations to the right of the station highlighted in red, will be the stations the bus will be travelling to. The bus stations to the left of the bus station highlighted in red, refers to the stations this bus had alreadly travelled before this bus comes to the station you are currently at. So, if you are going to the station which is left side of your current bus station, you may need to go to the bus station across the road.
But, something I don't like about their bus route is that, you may not find the same bus no at the bus station just across the road. There may be a bus station across the road but they don't have the bus you want to take. The bus you want may be found only at a further bus station because many of the buses here skip bus stations. (Eg. There are too many bus nos travelling on this road, so instead of having all buses stop at the same stop, some buses skip busstops.) Or, the bus may only be found at another road, because they don't practise circle line routes.
Oh yes, you see for each bus route list, there are some bus station names with a "small red" ball logo on their top, that indicates that there is a MRT station near that particular bus station.
So, always check the bus route signboard!
First Tower of Lingnan
by Willettsworld
This tower is the show-piece of the Five Celestials Shrine and also goes by the name of Jin Zhong Tower. It was built in 1374 and is the only bell tower in Guangzhou. The tower is 17.5 metres high and built of red sandstone. You can climb up the tower to see the bell and look down on the Back Palace.
