Money Changer

by lzxian

Hi all,

May I know is there any money changer in Guangzhou?

And does anyone know is there any bank for exchanging currency in BeiJing Road?

Thanks

Changing money into Chinese is no particular problem, but changing Chinese money (back) into something usful is uite a problem. I would imagine there are several banks in the centre (such as Beijinglu) which would readily take your foreign. But my advice is just to use an international banking card from home, and get from ATMs as you need it.

If you want to get foreign money, it can usually be done on the QT by a friendly travel agent.

I was in Guangzhou going to Hongkong last May, I wanted to exchanged my RMB To US or CAD at Bank of China, I was told only if I have account with BOC that I could change back even I had the receit. They can only change US or CAD to RMB but not to change back. They told me to change my RMB when I get to the border crossing. That what I did.

Yes, moneychangers in HK will readily change RMB.

Banks in China, like a lot of other enterprises, are absolutely bulging with superfluous staff (2003 estimate was about 25 million supernumary employees). They are totally inefficient, and sit around inventing stupid rules just to give the impression they're working hard. Nobody is impressed!

Travel Tips for Guangzhou

E.T.

by Guantanamera

The custom of acknowleding the visitation of strange alien outsiders known as the Five Celestial Beings extends into modern-day Guangzhou once again in the appearance of the "E.T." nightclub with its alien being visage staring across Guangzhou... Did you know that the American television show "The X-Files" is also shown in Guangzhou...?

Excellent Thai food

by Willettsworld about Cow & Bridge

This restaurant is located on Shamian Island and I came here one evening and had a wonderful Thai meal of chicken green curry with aromatic lemons, rice and a beer for RMB67. Most main courses are about RMB45 and can range up to RMB90 for more elaborate or seafood meals. Beers cost RMB15-20 and there is a special range of Thai drinks for RMB20. Waiters speak good English and the service is generally efficient, although it can be hard to get their attention at times. Meanwhile, the decor is fairly simple, only spiced up with the addition of a few plants.

Throughout China, when you...

Throughout China, when you see large scale buildings being built, you might do a double take, a second look. Yes, that's bamboo, not massive metal pipe or angle iron scaffolding, but bamboo, as far up as you wish.

Bamboo ladders connect each level and every so often there is safety netting to catch falling objects. These scaffolds are lightweight and sturdy at the same time, can be very easily transported, they are pretty inexpensive and take very few personnel to handle. They are well bound, one to the other and a study in ingenuity.

Wait till an OSHA employee sees this!. For those of you who are unfamiliar with that term, it is the USA's Occupational Safety and Health Administration who establishes standards for industrial utilization of equipment and safety practices.

They have been known to be a bit too fussy for some, including the very people they are allegedly protecting.

Anyone want to go into the scaffold renting business?
Anyone know how to start a bamboo plantation?
