MeiZhou
"MeiZhou - My grandfather's homeland"
Meizhou City is situated in the northeast of Guangdong Province, bordering on Fujian and Jiangxi Provinces. It was named for its plum blossoms.
The total area is 15,800 square kilometers, with a Hakka speaking population with exception of some minor part of people at Fengshun and Dapu that speak Chaozhou dialect. It is the biggest of the Hakkas community of the Hans in the country.
There are peaks after peaks with lots of rivers. Meizhou belongs to the hilly land south of Nanling with a topography of high in the north and low in the south.
Meizhou is in the sub-tropical zone, with short winter and long summer, annual average temperature is 21°C, long sunshine time and plenty of rainfall. It is suitable for developing production base of eco-agriculture and various economic crops .
I had the opportunity to pay my last respect to my grandpa in Meijiang and it was an eye opener. The graveyard is really BIG and the view of the farmland below are superb. The only problem for me was the hike up the grave. It was pure torture but the view from it makes up all the torture I endure.
It is also a community who love to eat dog meat. If you can stand the smell it should taste good. I didn't try cause I couldn't stand the smell.
There are also lovely bridges and pagoda. Do try to make a cheongsam in Meizhou. It cost only RMB120.00 inclusive of material.
