Ice Skating In Shenzhen
by tedshenzhen
Not only is ice skating available 365 days a year, but the largest commercial ice rink in Shenzhen's biggest and best mall is the home of this fabulous spot. Skating starts daily around 10am and finishes at 10pm, with reasonable rates that include the skates and locker. Food service inside. Coach by national, world and Olympic champions (including China's famous Chen Lu who won 2 bronze Olympic medals and was 1995 World Champion....and Denis Petrov, former national champion of Russia who has an Olympic Silver and World Championship title). Polite and well trained staff, this is by far the most luxurious ice rink on the planet. Highly recommend it. They have a fun website with a live video picture at www.worldicearena.com. Group rates, very nice environment. You're in southern China so ice skating can be done in tee shirts most of the time. Its never really cold or hot...Just right.

I could see the train going to the Lo Wu Train Station. Later I noticed it is just there where we left the tunnel trunk to enter the LuoHu Shopping Distyrict.
Where the people were coming from and going to Hongkong ...
You will cross the No Man´s Land area by a bridge ...
I heard the border crossing can be very crowded, take a long time and can be very stressy ...

iHOPE is your all day breakfast place in shenzhen. their menu includes sandwish, salad, lunch afternoon tea, and coffee and pastries. the restaurant is quite spacious with two floors. a little bit hard to find but can be located once you get on marco polo hotel road. it's in the far end of the building facing the road. the place is cozy with comfy chairs and a mezzanine where you could read newspaper, magazines and even play some boardgames. it's worth going to this place as its one of a kind and the prices are unbeatable. you could have a meal that's worth Rmb 20. their menu is bilingual. the manager, robin is helpful and speaks english. hash brown and cereals
bike in shenzhen

Get a map, put on your protective gear, hop on your bike and go around Shenzhen the authentic Chinese way :)
No place to rent bikes? Buy your own. They cost as low as RMB100+ in Wal Mart. It's nice to go around China's "Green City."
Shenzhen: The City that Didn't Exist Yesterday
by linwei66
As you may have read in my Tianjin China section, I took a semester off at my college to teach English in China in 2003. For a little over two months I was stationed in Shenzhen in south China teaching at an English summer camp for young hyper-injected kids.
Now I have come back to good ole Shenzhen to teach English at a primary school in nanshan area. I will however, only be in Shenzhen until the end of October 2006. At that time I'll be moving home to Tianjin to teach.
This city is "new" in every sense of the word. From a small fishing village, this city emerged within twenty-five years. Now it is a major economic center for China and has been marked as one of the governments four economic zones. Actually it is the richest city in China. There are lots of skyscrapers, businesses, and new construction projects underway.
"Three interesting facts about this place:"
1. the average age is somewhere around 28 (this is because young people move here from the countryside seeking success)
2. Many who come don't find the sucess they were looking for...so the city has a somewhat high crime rate
3. there is an unbelievable amount of beggars who particularly like to wait at crossing areas to Hong Kong, knowing that the many people with money who hop over the border from Hong Kong to do shopping are an easy target
