shopping

by sunshine0809

hi is it cheaper to shop in shenzhen or zhuhai

Re: shopping

by gaolei

Hard to say about price, but Shenzhen has a lot more shopping than Zhuhai. I expect that with the greater number of department stores, there is more competition, and probably lower prices. Besides, the electronics shopping in Zhuhai is nothing, it is incredible in Shenzhen.

I am not sure why anyone would pick Zhuhai as a shopping destination. It ihas become infamous as the place next to Macau with all the chinese girls. This city is full of KTVs, Massages, and street walkers. It is often difficult for a guy to get from the street into the hotel without having to run the girl gauntlet.

I have lived in both cities. Shenzhen is by far the better variety and sizes of clothes. It has much more electrical products. The only advantage Zhuhai has is less people in the shops and it is easier to shop in if you know where you are going although some things are cheaper the difference is not huge. Don't expect too many shop assistants to speak English in either city. Zhuhai is a lot less crowded than Shenzhen and a more pleasant place to stroll around.

Even in the "walking street" I had no problems with being accosted - I think the reputation is blown out of all reality.
In either city though be very wary of pickpockets and be careful with cameras and mobile phones. Even so both are fairly safe cities to get around.

Shopping is never cheap! but Shenzhen has more, Zhuhai gets the left overs

Travel Tips for Shenzhen

Nine Dragon Wall @ Splendid China

by SLLiew

The Nine Dragon Wall (Qiu Long Bi) is a very popular must-take photo spot for local and overseas Chinese tourists.

Dragons are important symbols in Imperial China as well as in the Chinese psyche. It is one of the 12 animals in the Chinese calendars. Many Chinese parents try to have a "dragon" baby - born in the year of the dragon. The next year of Dragon is 2012 AD.

There are many Nine Dragon Walls being built all over China after the first legendary one. The three most famous and surviving walls are 1) Datong, Shanxi said to be built in Liao Dynasty a thousand years ago 2) Beihai Park in Beijing and 3) Ningyong Gate, Imperial Palace, Beijing.

So this is the fourth Nine Dragon Wall in Splendid China, Shenzen. Hard to say which one is truer and better.

curry and belly dancing

by zephyrgurl108 about viceroy skylounge

eat and drink and watch beautiful belly dance number.
this is viceroy sky lounge. located on the 18th floor of a hotel, this spacious yet cozy place gives a good view of shenzhen.
their non vegetarian menu really rocks! beer costs a lot more than average but it makes up for the ambience, great sounds and entertainment. no dress code required

a bbq place for vegetarians?!

by zephyrgurl108 about amazon brazilian bbq

if you are a lone vegetarian with a bunch of carnivores looking for a place to eat, then this place is highly recommended.
it is the first resto in china where i didnt feel deprived. fruits and pure veggie dishes abound at the buffet table (a "tree" shoots through 2 decks of "tables").
the theme of the resto is ..guess what, amazonic :)
never mind the waiters who keep offering you pork, chicken, beef bbq's and other god knows what part of the animal it is on a stick...
buffet costs 68RMB per person, but lucky veggies get half price :D guess why the grilled corn (spicy and sweet), the peanuts with something else on the buffet table, the lotus slices, fruits fruits fruits!

The China Folk Culture Villages

by Alain_Smeets

In this Park you can see 55 minority groups of China. You can see some houses and you can learn about their dresses, habits and mostly they present themselves with shows. We enjoyed our day her very much, although we didn’t understand their language and the Mandorin or Kantonese translation of it, we were overwhelmed by their expressions and still had the change to follow a bit of the things they would like to tell to us.

I compare it with the Belgium Bokrijk where we can visit our own past, but here you can visit some of the minority groups from China. It’s an experience worth while.

The village is a museum of China's 55 ethnic groups with their distinctive architecture, customs and exotic flavor. Twenty-four life-size ethnic villages present various ethnic flavors from Beijing's courtyards and wooden archway to spectacular buildings of the Miao, Dong, Yao, Jingpo ethnic groups. From the wooded Banyans in Xishuangbanna to slender Suzhou bridges and mystery Lijiang houses, you can get a general idea about China's ethnic groups in just half a day.

It's very close to another magnificent park, Splendid China, this is China in miniature, and they can be done in one day.

Shenzhen- Modern China City

by cal6060

"Gateway to mainland china"

I and my friend were in Shenzhen in 2001. We must go through shenzhen from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. So we went, it was the worst experience we had in China. The city was not clean and polluted. They had so many beggers to ask for money and help. I was there again in 2004, I found out that the old polluted Shenzhen had gone. Today Shenshen is my favorate China city. It has the cleanest streets in China, the modern high rise building with efficient metro(subway) train systems.
