Shenzhen - a tough place to be
by shanghai-schwoab
Shenzhen is a big city where all parts of China are presented. Its so mixed. For foreigners not easy to get around, people mainly speak no english. 2 beaches which are packed from 4 p.m. on, never go there at the weekend, if yes, dont forget your plastic swim ring...
nightlife is boring, a few bars there U Bar, V Bar, 3d Bar, Crazy, it depends what you want.
many hookers around but they are trying to clean that up right now.
best thing to do in Shenzhen is leave it and go to Hingkong, takes 1,5hours by train. Enjoy !

Can't decide? Try this Restaurant area
by gaolei about Xiangmihu Resort
Xiangmihu resort is an area that includes one hotel and about a dozen big restaurants covering many of the Chinese cuisines. The restaurants are all in one area next to a parking lot. Each one has a specialty such as Chongqing, Northeast, Northwest, BBQ, Mongolian, Hunan, Japanese and several more.
The most unusual one is the Mongolian. They have a couple dozen Yurts you can sit in and have dinner. The first and largest restaurant has lamb Jiaozi, dumplings. This is the only place I have see them.
Shenzehen Museum
by SLLiew
One of the city's landmark buildings, the Shenzhen Museum was open in 1988 with traditional and modern architecture style incorporated.
The Museum depicts the 800 history of Shenzhen (Xiasha) when the Huang Clan first settled during the Song Dynasty of China. Since Shenzhen was made into one fo the special economic zones, the local who owned land had prospered.
The several floors museums has statues, displays and stuffed animals to give a local flavor of the local history and Chinese culture.

"How much I miss Shenzhen!"
I lived in Shenzhen, Overseas Chinese Town or Hua Qiao Cheng, for 10 years of my life from 1980-1991. But man, this place is nothing like it was before. It went from a small fishing town to one of the top economic cities in China in less than 20 years, all thanks to Deng Xiaopeng. If you're into shopping (probably one of the best in china) and nightlife, shenzhen is a must.
