Is the shopping really that good compared with Hong Kong

by chrisbec

My wife and I were going to go shopping in Bangkok for 1 day and stay on a nearby island to relax and get some sun for 3 days. Now, with the crisis in Thailand we have decided to go to Hong Kong to do some shopping. My wife will be looking for high quality copy hand bags and I will be looking for electronics and watches.

A few questions...

1) Is it worth going to Shenzhen for the shopping or can I find same stuff in Hong Kong?

2)Is there anywhere in Hong Kong or Shenzhen to relax on beach or really nice pool...?

3)How much is train from Hong Kong to Shenzhen in AUD?

Thanks in advance for your help:)

You can likely get just as good hand bag copies in Hong Kong as Shenzhen as they will come out of the same factory. Price may be cheaper in Shenzhen. Electronics stuff will be more up to date and if you buy from a reputable store the warranty may be valid.
The only beaches in Shenzhen are Dameisha and Xiaomeisha but they aren't easy for casual tourists to get to.
Train from HK to LuoHU (Shenzhnen) is about AUD 6-7 I think.

1) Even mainland Chinese prefer to buy electronic items in Hong Kong. Try a reputable place such as Fortress.
2) Try the outlying islands of Hong Kong.
3) It's the MTR, not the train. How much it costs will depend on where in Hong Kong you're starting from. Take the MTR to either Lo Wu (Lo Wu crossing) or Lok Ma Chau and cross to Shenzhen on foot.

Travel Tips for Shenzhen

Shenzhen - a tough place to be

by shanghai-schwoab

Shenzhen is a big city where all parts of China are presented. Its so mixed. For foreigners not easy to get around, people mainly speak no english. 2 beaches which are packed from 4 p.m. on, never go there at the weekend, if yes, dont forget your plastic swim ring...
nightlife is boring, a few bars there U Bar, V Bar, 3d Bar, Crazy, it depends what you want.
many hookers around but they are trying to clean that up right now.
best thing to do in Shenzhen is leave it and go to Hingkong, takes 1,5hours by train. Enjoy !

glorious mall

by zephyrgurl108 about king glory plaza

another one of those nice, modern malls in shenzhen is king glory plaza. brands carried range from the very expensive to more affordable products. several restaurants and starbucks are also here. anything on sale! depends on your disposable income

Can't decide? Try this Restaurant area

by gaolei about Xiangmihu Resort

Xiangmihu resort is an area that includes one hotel and about a dozen big restaurants covering many of the Chinese cuisines. The restaurants are all in one area next to a parking lot. Each one has a specialty such as Chongqing, Northeast, Northwest, BBQ, Mongolian, Hunan, Japanese and several more.

The most unusual one is the Mongolian. They have a couple dozen Yurts you can sit in and have dinner. The first and largest restaurant has lamb Jiaozi, dumplings. This is the only place I have see them.

Shenzehen Museum

by SLLiew

One of the city's landmark buildings, the Shenzhen Museum was open in 1988 with traditional and modern architecture style incorporated.

The Museum depicts the 800 history of Shenzhen (Xiasha) when the Huang Clan first settled during the Song Dynasty of China. Since Shenzhen was made into one fo the special economic zones, the local who owned land had prospered.

The several floors museums has statues, displays and stuffed animals to give a local flavor of the local history and Chinese culture.

"How much I miss Shenzhen!"

I lived in Shenzhen, Overseas Chinese Town or Hua Qiao Cheng, for 10 years of my life from 1980-1991. But man, this place is nothing like it was before. It went from a small fishing town to one of the top economic cities in China in less than 20 years, all thanks to Deng Xiaopeng. If you're into shopping (probably one of the best in china) and nightlife, shenzhen is a must.
