Money Matters

Shenzhen currency is Renminbi (RMB). It is also referred to as YUAN.
Prevailing exchange rate is:
1 US Dollar = 8.29 Chinese Yuan Renminbi
Around Shenzhen Hongkong Dollars (HK$) is widely accepted. Most shop keepers like in Lo Wu preferred HK$ on payments.
There are a lot of counterfeit yuan, thus its highly recommended to change money on banks, good exchange rate too, there are a lot of banks in Shenzhen its open even on Saturday.
Just show your passport if changing money at the bank. They only copy the passport #. So if you memorize your passport #, no need to show actual passport. It works for us:-)
Credit cards are accepted in major hotels and establishments. Though on taxis and entrance fees at theme parks, credit card is not accepted.

The stage background has changed. Mao is no longer watching over the performances. Try the naan, roast bun with mutton filling, home made yogurt (I like it without sugar), and any of the mutton skewers with typical xinjiang spices. The smoked horse sausage is pretty good too. I also recommend the xinjiang classic: da pan ji (大盘鸡) - big plate of chicken, with potatoes, spices, lotsa garlic and wide noodles.

In Shajin town, you find it all. In the evenings the local karaoke bars open on the street, or there are lots of people standing outside to watch to a TV.
But also on the markets, you can see the people do lot's of things, like fixing shoes.
Shenzhen -Gateway to China

Shenzhen for us was just a transit area for travel to other parts of China. It is cheaper to fly via Shenzhen rather than Hong Kong. Eg flight from Guilin to Hong Kong 1800 Yuan Guilin to Shenzhen 800 Yuan.
