Travel Shenzhen to Hong Kong

by hirdy

What is the best way to get from Shenzhen to Hong Kong with lots of bags without lining up 5 times???? Thanks

Re: Travel Shenzhen to Hong Kong

If you're returning to Hong Kong to catch a flight, then you can take a ferry directly to HK airport and your luggage will be checked through to your flight once you checkin at the pier/port in Shenzhen. You can read the details below with the link and also read the info links on the right side of the page:

http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/transport/transport-connection-with-mainland-china/ferry-transfer/service-at-a-glance.html

I've got some detailed explanations in my HK and Macau pages but I think regular Chinamonty does the trip between HKIA and Shenzehn frequently.

Thank you seagypsy, but we are not going to the Airport, we are staying in Hong Kong for 1 night on Kowloon. Any ideas????

It is very easy from there. Just go to the train station at Hong Hom by taxi. It takes 5 minutes. You can catch the commuter train to Lohu (also called Lowu) station in Shenzhen. There is one leaving very often and it will take about 40 minutes to get there, if I remember right. The 5 bags may be a hassle, but it is only 40 minutes.

Check online for one of the Limo services. They will likely have an option which is easier albeit more expensive. Once you get in to HK how are you getting from the border to Kowloon. If by train then you would probably be better avoiding LuoHu and going through HuangGang (depends whether you know your way around).

Hi chinamonty,

We are staying just near Luo Hu I was trying to avoid the made rush at the Train Station at Shenzhen, what do you suggest? Thanks

Very hard to say without being there. If you just have clothes in bags then I would buy a large suitcase. Are you staying in a hotel? If so see if any guest from Hong Kong is willing to take you across the border in their car. As long as they can be sure there is no contraband I think you would be likely to find someone obliging. I still think the limo services is your best bet even if it a little more expensive (RMB150 each person versus 36 for the train)

yeah its a little tough especially if you have alot of stuff to bring, Because immigration or customs in HK knows that people buys a lot of stuff from shenzhen and to bring it to HK... It not that hard though nor a walk in the park...Instead of LOWU try to take the train at lok ma chow(i dont know the exact spelling), almost everyone takes the train from LO wu...so to avoid a lot of peeps try the other station or take the BUS!!

Travel Tips for Shenzhen

Great Wall of China @ Splendid China

by SLLiew

If you take a photo angle with carefully planned background view of the "Great Wall", you could make your friends back home think that you were in the Northern China at the Great Wall while you were actually in Southern China, near Hong Kong at Shenzen Splendid China theme park.

Of course, it is easier to digitally transfer your image on a real photo of the Great Wall, yet it is fun to do this the old fashioned way. I tried having many tourist heads, many garden plants and background skyscrappers to deal with.

What is interesting is that the "Great Wall" is used to encircle the park and used as a fencing barrier as dual purpose.

indian groceries

by zephyrgurl108 about Sidh Provision Store

The shop is the only Indian grocery store in Shenzhen (as far as I know). Most of what you need if you're into Indian food and cooking can be found here. Vegetarians would especially love this place with instant vegetarian noodles and microwaveable vege indian dishes available.
The shop is a nondescript store, housed in a residential building. Bollywood movies, Indian brand shampoo, and other whatnots are also sold here. The microwaveable packed dishes are a must buy. The prices for the stuff are cheap. Noodles at 4RMB, microwaveable vege dishes at 16rmb, etc.

Hunanese Restaurant

by THLIN about Mao Jia Fan Dian (the Mao's Kitchen)

When it comes to Hunan, the most famous Hunanese in the world is Chairman Mao, who led the revolution of China; but when it comes to famous Chinese cuisine, Hunanese is one of the best among all. Famous for its spicy style, Hunanese food can be very very spicy. Most of the time, you see more chillis than any other ingredient in your plates.
Mao's Kitchen, namely, is in the name of Chairman Mao. There you can see a lot of Mao's pictures hanging on the wall. All of the private room is named after a place in Hunan; mine was An-yuan 1898. I suppoed that this should be where Chairman Mao was while he was alive. The food is quite authentic, in other word, very spicy. Service is not awesome, but in a remote industrial town of Shenzhen, this is considered good already.
This place is good for both private meeting or business meeting. I like their sweetened lotus root stuffed with glutinous rice. It is not main dish, but somehow, it's my fave. Their fried spicy pork liver is also very nice, but due to high cholesterol reason, I don't really eat a lot. The braised fat pork is good, for the same reason, I could not eat too much.

Sorry, I was busy preparing wine and looking for others, I didn't take any pics after the dinner started.

Splendid China

by Alain_Smeets

See the forbidden city of Bejing, the great wall of China, the Terra Cotta figures and many other wonders of China in miniature. I can recommend visiting this place. You get an very good impression of all the wonders that you can see in China.

You can dream about your next destination in China and you will see the rich culture of this big country.

It's very close to another magnificent park, The China Folk Culture Villages, and they can be done in one day.

"An eye-opener to China"

Loved every minute of it! Except for the school I was with: money-grubbing-bigot owners! But it was fun while it lasted...(2mths). Will always remember the cheap (non-sleazy) massage parlours, the cheap wonderful chinese restaurants, the fake goods in Luo Huo and the wonderful colleagues I've made friends with for life.
