Going around Shenzhen with family & friends
Dear friend,
I am actually going on vacation in Shenzhen from Hongkong next week, and I will be accompanied by 8 other people.
Please advise the most convenient way and/or cheapest to go to shenzhen and then onwards to a hotel on jiabin road, supposedly near the guo mao station.
By the way is the customs border in Lo wu far from the MTR station in Lo Wu to go to Guo Mao the next station.
Your advice will be highly appreciated.

I can't tell you about prices - MTR fare is about HK$35 but it goes up at weekends. SO you might be better off in two taxis or a minibus.
Lowu MTR station - you have to get off the train, walk across the river/immigration. Shenzhen side (Luohu) the metro is very close to the border and it is well signposted (in English).
There is a bus that goes from the Hongkong airport to the train station in Shenzhen. I don't remember the exact fair, but it was chap and very convenient.
Take the train to LuoWu (that is the name of the station on the Hong Kong side). cross the border to LuoHu (the name of the station on the Mainland side) and take the metro one stop to Guomao station. If you are staying at the Panglin Hotel then it is a couple of blocks from the station as are most of the hotels in Jaibin Lu. I guess it depends on how much luggage you have as well. nine people will be two cabs (at a pinch) and around RMB12 each cab either from LuoHu to the hotel or from GauMao to the hotel. This was the flagfall when I was there but it may have been reduced slightly since. I personally would use the cab if the luggage isn't too much. Even so at RMB12 a cab they are very cheap as this is under USD2.00.
What station is between LuoHu and GuoMao?
Guomao is first stop after Luohu on line 1. Next stop is Laojie.

No they don't, the fare is the same everyday!
Take bus from HKIA to LuWu or Wanguang border crossing as recommended by others, take 2 taxi (4x2) to hotel. That is the best way, I will not recommend taking the Shenzhen subway with luggage in toll and trying to find hotel. The cost difefrent between teh taxi and 8 sub tickets are not worth the hardship!

How long will you stay in SHenzhen ?
Indeed you can choose a cheap hotel there , near the station here are many hotels , you have a lot of choices .
You need go into the hotel see the rooms , most of them fatastic outside , while not so good inside .
Also you can live in Futian section if you want to purchase electronic products ,this is your best choice to stay .
And transportation i think the subway is best comvinient for you , quick and cheap way ,also very very convinient .
When you lost yourself , you can ask people around you , most of them can speak english very well .
Hope you have a wonderful stay in SZ .
If you want to go other city of China , I would advise you Chengdu ,Sichuan province , nice place , worth your visit .

ShenZhen, rised from a small fish village beiside the sea, now become China's NO.1 most modernized city. As you walk on the street of Shenzhen, you would feel like you are traveling in a western city. This city is very young and very beautiful. A city is not only Moden with all these tall buliding. With high level of virescence, it is joyble to hanging around the city.
Malls are popping up like mushrooms around Shenzhen and one of the latest shopaholic havens is the Coco Park. Yep, it's a mall, not a park. Basically, the reasons why I love this mall consist of restaurants and cafes such as Papa John's Pizza, Focaccino, Starbucks, Illy's and Jusco, a grocery where you can get cheese, butter, and imported items (not the kind of grocery that have live animals inside ready for butchering).
I'm not crazy about its clothing stores though as they are unheard of (save the sporting clothes nike, adidas, fila, etc) and even expensive. Another nice thing is the HSBC ATM and bank they have there for international transactions. There's also a cinema here which is new and nice. food and grocery items. japanese brands are abundant in jusco. depends on you
The service is perfect, if you take a sip of your tea or beer, they fill it up again. Is your plate a bit full with bones or other things, they bring another one.
And the food is delicious.
The first time we (Europeans) entered we got giggles and smiles, later they were used to us, but ordering stays an special experience.

The city also offers free admission to a number of public parks including the Lianhuashan Park, Lizhi Park and Wutongshan Park. Shenzhen is famous for the great variety of cuisines that its numerous restaurants provide.
Most tourists, however, choose to stay in a largely expatriate community called Shekou. It is a residential area, with few commercial buildings. This place has many Western-based restaurants and a large plaza called Sea World. Sea World is host to many common American businesses, such as McDonalds and Starbucks. The main attraction of Sea World is a large French cruise liner that is cemented into the ground. It was taken from the French because it was believed to be a drug-smuggling vessel.
