Green Oasis Hotel (GOH): Value For Money
Finding a triple room within our budget in this city was not easy and fortunately we found Green Oasis Hotel (GOH). It not hard to get to the hotel if you can ask around for direction in Mandarin.
From the airport, one can get to the hotel by bus. Take bus route 371 (formally 355) or Line 2 (formally 327) at the Shenzhen Airport's domestic terminal and alight at Baoan Transportation Hub Stop (宝安交通运输局站). Unfortunately, buses only announced the stops in Mandarin, an inconvenience for non-Mandarin speakers. To go to the hotel, cross the pedestrian bridge at the left of the bus stop. Take the left side of the downward staircase, walk straight until you reach a junction and turn right. You should be able to see the hotel's sign if you lift your head up. Walk down the street until you reach another junction. The hotel's entrance is at the right turn at the junction, with a convenience store next to it. The whole walk should take less than 5 minutes.
Front desk staff was friendly and helpful, but we were conversing in Mandarin with them, so we were not sure of their English proficiency. The hotel requires RMB100 deposit upon checking it, which is refundable during checkout. The room was not big, just nice for 3 person, and most importantly, it was clean with no funny smell. Electrical power in the room remained even when you take out the key card (as indicated on the signage near the plug point), so its good if you want to leave your electrical gadget for charging in the room. It may not be a wise move security-wise but we did not experience any unpleasant incident of that sort while staying at the hotel. Housekeeping staffs were friendly and helpful too - a lady promptly handed us our 3rd towel upon seeing the 3 of us going into our room. Hair dryer was available at the hallway instead of in the room and shower cap was not provided. Housekeeping staff also mopped the room floor clean up.
Subway station (Lingzhi Station of Shenzhen Metro) is about 20 minutes walk away. Go straight at the T-junction in front of the hotel until you reach a cross road. Turn left and cross to the opposite side. Walk again until you reach another cross road with a traffic light, you should be pasing a big book store on your right on the way. Turn left and walk straight. The station is right ahead.
There was a grill stall that opened for supper just in front of the convenient store beside the hotel, we love the food there!!! They had a variety of vegetables, seafood to choose from, not to mention chicken, pork and offal too. The grilled food are served with hot and numbing pepper and spices - be sure not to miss this if you are hot and spicy food lover like us!! One of the specialty dish was steam fish with garlic and spring onion.
Travel in Shenzhen (and with other cities in China) are much more convenient with buses. We went to Splendid China and Window of the World by bus as there were several buses that are able to reach there compared to the need to walk to the Subway. An this is good with those who read, speak and understand Mandarin.
We are happy with our stay here and we would be coming back again, for the cleanliness, convenience of bus system and the grill food stall.

Location and friendly staff.
The grill food stall just outside the hotel (and not operated by the hotel)

Garden Inn Dongmen Middle Road: Great Location! Great Price!
I booked this hotel through www.elong.net. I enjoyed staying in this hotel because of the following reasons:
1) Location: Short-walk to the metro station, Shaibu Station. It is next to the Shaibu Station Exit A1. One station away is Laojie Station, an interchange station to airport and Luohu. Right across the main street is the Dongmen shopping area. There are plenty of fast food restaurants, convenience shop, and a bank of China next to the building.
2) Price: I booked a discount King Room for Y129 (US$ 21) per night. A king bed that can sleep two adults.
3) Safe: I checked out the lobby and corridor. CCTVs are everywhere. Some rooms come with a safety box which you can store some of your valuable stuff.
4) Clean: I found this hotel is clean including the sheets, floor, the toilet, and etc.
5) Shower: no problem with their showers, good water pressure, and hot water are available 24 hours.
1) Staffs don't speak English, so be prepared. They are friendly if you can speak either Mandarin or Cantonese.
2) The hotel chain does not come with tooth brush and tooth paste, so you need to bring your own. Otherwise you can pay Y5 to buy them.

Shangri-La: quality sleeping
There are many hotels that are near the border and train station at Shenzhen. they have all kinds from luxury to budget. I stay with the major chain hotels as they have some kind of quality control. for budget there is the Days Inn, and for Luxury try Shangri-la Hotel Shenzhen 1002 JIANSHE ROAD,East Side,Railway Station, 518001 Shenzhen, People's Republic of China
both hotels are fine and priced between 40-100 usd and within yards of the train station and shopping district.
cheers tommy x
quiet and clean

Cruise Inn Hotel: A Cruise Ship Hotel
In the Shekou district is an area called Sea World. The centerpiece is an old cruise chip called the Ming Hua. The ship was pulled up to a dock years ago and the surrounding area was filled in to form a new land area. The ship was left high and dry, and it was made the focal point of Taizi Plaza (Prince Plaza).
The ship has really nice rooms, good, but a bit hard beds, internet, restaurants, pool hall and sports bar. For about $50 per night, it is a great deal.
One word of warning though. They are removing Taizi Plaza and building a new building in it's place. It is bound to be noisy and inconvenient to stay there during the next 2 years.
It's a cruise ship with a microbrewery in the upper level restaurant.

Holiday Inn Express Luohu: Express in many ways
Hotel locates in downtown Shenzhen with 10 minutes walk to famous the Mixc Mall. There are many shops around the hotel; you can get practically everything you need in 5 minutes walking distance.
Service is okay considering the money you pay, and you have a nice breakfast with unlimited access to the Internet. This is much better than I expected indeed.
However, the room itself is not big, but it has everything from shower, sanitary pack, a queen size bed big enough for 2 persons, and TV.
Hm... Location I believe.

Airland Hotel Dameisha: Great hotel opposite of the beach
This is a great hotel of the Hongkong based Airland group. You can take it also as base for trips to Longgang - you will need about 40-50 min. by taxi to Longgang. And the athmosphere in Dameisha is really very nice compared with the industrialized and busy Longgang. Very good breakfast buffet (they charge you 45RMB if you did not book it with your room), and exceptionally friendly staff, especially at the receiption. The hotel is about 10 years old (which is really old on Chinese scale), but it is built in a solid style, with new Thai style furniture in the rooms, every room towards the sea has a large balcony, you can sleep with open balcony door without danger. Just towards the seaside, there are some restaurants in the ground floor of the hotel, including KFC and McDonalds, with guests sitting outside, and this generates quite a noise - also at the beach there is a bar with amplified life music every evening. If you are very keen on calm sleep with open window, then better book a hill-side room - at the hill side part of the hotel there is a nice and calm quarter with narrow Chinese streets (of higher price level, I think no reason to be anxious). If you want to see the sea from your room take care that you get a room in the 5th floor - the trees are too high for the 3rd floor. The neighbouring LaWaterfront is in the same style of buildings, but seems to wait for some renovation (at least as seen from outside in autumn 2010).
Relaxed Dameisha sea-shore athmosphere. Large and clean rooms with new furtniture. Solidly built. Opposite of Dameisha sea-shore park with possibility to swim and jog at the beach.

Honlux Apartments: Shekou's Best Placed Hotel
I was looking for a reasonable hotel that was close to the cruise ship in Sea World Shenzhen. I read both good and bad reviews about the Honlux hotel. As it turned out, it was all good. The room was big and clean. The TV was ok, bathroom was clean and the bed was a little hard, but not too bad. Overall, a good hotel.
Additionally, the internet was good and free. A reasonably good breakfast was included in the room price.
Jocation, Location, Location. The hotel is located next to Taizi (Prince) Plaza. The plaza is surrounded by mostly western and gormet restaurants. It is also noted for entertainment. There are live western rock bands in the clubs. This is a very easy place to spend time for western people. When I looked out my window, I could see a Dunkin Donuts below my room, heaven!

Xiangmihu Hotel Longhao: Forget the Adds, it's a Chinese 2 Star Hotel
Well it looked like an inexpensive 3 or 4 star hotel on the China Trip site. I arrived at nearly midnight and discovered that Xingmihu is the name of the district and the large restaurant area the hotel was in. The actual name is Longhao hotel. We arrived in front of the hotel and did not recognise it by the name Xiangmihu.
On checkin, there was one guy, a manager, and 4 girls. The girls could not figure out how to run the credit card machine. This is always a bad sign.
Overall, the hotel had seen better days. The rooms were large and newly renovated, but the renovation was low quality. The swimming pool did not exist, having been drained and surrounded with restaurant decks. The tv had no English stations. The highspeed internet was slow. Breakfast was all low quality Chinese food.
The bed is like a billiard table. I really do think I bruised a rib in this bed. I had a sore spot on my rib for a week after leaving the hotel.
Most of the things promised in their ad, from the 4 star rating to the night club was wrong. Avoid this hotel. It is not what they claim.
There is a small lake with a house in the middle. It was cute. The surrounding restaurants in the compound were quite good.
The advertising for this hotel is a fabricated lie. If you have not stayed in a real no star Chinese hotel and feel you need the experience, stay here. Otherwise, avoid it!

Shenzhen Loft Hostel: Shenzhen Loft Hostel
I only stayed in this place one night as I had a flight from Shenzen Airport to Kunming in the afternoon and could not find anywhere to stay in Hong Kong. The place is more expensive than most hostels in China, but much cheaper than hostels in HK. The place itself was easy to find with the directions given, but is quite a distance from the border with Hong Kong and the city centre. The place is about a 45min bus ride away from the airport.
There is an arts complex very close to the hostel and some nice parks that are worth a walk around.

There has been an increase in hotel robberies becasue of the large number of factory closures in the Guangdong area.
Gang of 2 or 3 will gain entery into hotel rooms, usually answer the door as hotel service attendents, tie the occupants up and demand pin numbers from their ATM and credit cards. One or 2 members will go to cash out the bank cards while one stay to keep watch.
If you have laptops some will demand you make online money transfers.
Be sure to use security chains on the door when answering the door. Do not let anyone in to do "repairs" unless verified by the front desk.

Jing Sui Hotel: Budget hotel
Jing Sui hotel (no English name on the sign) is located in the Futian district of Shenzhen. It had the feel of being a family-run operation which I guess it was. In front of the reception desk, there was a security camera trained on the hallway.
I'm not sure how to give the directions to this hotel, but I remember I made a left on Exit C of Ke Xue Guan metro stop, another left, then a right, until I see the ICBC bank and across the street, a Muslim restaurant on the second floor. Now make a left and walk a minute or two down and you will see a sign that says ANGEL BAR. Well, ANGEL BAR is sandwiched between two cheap hotels, Jing Sui and Xin Di Binguan. I stayed at the latter just for one night and moved the next day to Jing Sui where I stayed a couple of days.
I liked the location of Jing Sui hotel which was five minutes walk from Exit C of Ke Xue Guan (Science center) metro station. The area has a couple of Muslim restaurants, local supermarkets, ICBC bank, bars, massage parlors, restaurants, a wet market(inside) and foodstalls(outside) where you can find cheap local food, etc. This obviously is where the locals hang out unlike Lo Huo where more tourists go.
I also liked the price (110 yuan after discount) for two double beds in a spacious room. The room was much better than the one in Hong Kong for which I paid 230HKD for a very small room in the Mirador Mansion, TST area.

Fuzon Hotel (Jinluan Fuzhong Jiudian): A nice Hotel in Shekou district
I was traveling on business and did not want to spend a lot of money in the two 5 star hotels in the Shekou district. A friend recommended this hotel. The hotel itself is very nice and new. the rooms are big, king sized beds are available, everything is quite good, but the breakfast is just soso. It is a little out of the way, so your taxi driver will not be able to find it too easily unless he is a very local driver. Best to call the hotel and ask.
The hotel is just 3 or 4 blocks from the Sea World complex where there are restaurants serving every style of food imaginable, Mexican, Irish pub, Brazilian and Italian to name a few. The area across form the hotel is a shopping and Chinese restaurant district. The other hotels in this district seem to be in the middle of a red-light district, but this one is not.
Big rooms, very comfortable and quiet for a reasonable price, 348 RMB per night, about $50 USD for a solid 3 star hotel!

Holiday Inn Express Louhu: First Holiday Inn Express I have seen in China
This is a new hotel in The Louhu section of Shenzhen. Louhu district is in the center of town near Louhu train station, the border with Hong Kong.
If you are familiar with the Holiday Inn Express product, you will know exactly what you are going to get when you book a room here. Everything was as I expected, clean, king bed, good TV, free internet, free breakfast, and everything you get elsewhere in this brand. The other thing you get is a slightly lower price, 426 RMB per night, around $62 per night.
Nothing unique here, just good value for your money.

Shenzhen Loft youth hostel: Nice place close to the theme parks
I have stayed at this place just for a night and moved to an other place next day because of its location. It is closed to the Theme parks but quite far from the city center. However you can take the metro to the city center for 4 Yuan and the trip takes 20 min. This place is a very clean and quite place. It is suitable for the ones who are looking for some peace in busy Shenzhen city.Although its location may seems like a disadvantage this place is never boring because there are such places like , a cafe , a reading room , a TV room where you can meet the other travelers. The 3 bed dorms are for 55 Yuan if you have youth hostel membership card and 65 if not.
The facilities like all the other hostels exist at Loft Shenzhen. There is a free kitchen for the members
In my opinion the best thing was the supermarket just at the next door where you can buy ready cooked food for reasonable prices as well your beer.A bottle of local Kingsway beer costs 6 Yuan at the hostel. This place is unique in Shenzhen with its low prices and quite location.

My Little Hut: A cheap and clean place at the city center
My Little Hut is the best place to stay for the ones who are looking for a budget hotel in Shenzhen.
It is located only 10min walking distance from the main shopping area Jia feng Lu and very easy to reach there by metro from the Da Ju Yuan station. They have unlimited 24hrs Hot water which means a lot at a Chinese hotel. There are 3 types of rooms prices start from 130 Yuan to 160.The cheaper ones have comparatively small windows. All the rooms are equipped with cable TV , A/C , kettle and in addition customers get fresh towels , bathing slippers , shampoo , toothpaste and toothbrush etc...
on the 2nd floor of the building there is an internet cafe 5 Yuan per hr.
The manager of the place is a Chinese women 'Amy' speaks English and she is very helpful.
The picture Shows the Baoan Nan Lu (Road) that you need to take to get there while following the directions.
It is the cheapest budget budget hotel at the center of Shenzhen and this place accomadating most of the backpackers in Shenzhen as the youth hostel is quite far from the city center. It is good value for the money and location is great.Although it located in the heart of the city this place quite and i shouldn't skip that it is clean. There is no restaurant or a cafe at the hotel so it might be not easy to meet the other travelers like at the youth hostels but this is not a youth hostel it is a budget hotel.
