Xin Ming Zhu: A good place to stay in

This is a nice hotel to stay in. For us it was very convenient because we were just 500 metres from the factory were we needed to be. When we didn't have to go to a supplier and being picked up by a car, we walked to the factory.

The hotel is nice and clean. The rooms are very big and the beds are hard. I always had a good nights rest there. They also have their own karaoke bar and massage parlour. But most people are going to the newer places.

One note, this hotel is located in the business area, 1 hour away from the city centre of Shenzhen.

Address: Both Sides of the Guangshen Highway Shajin Town,Baoan Shenzhen China.

Xin Ming Zhu: Which room to choose

The view from my hotel room is different depending where on the room you stay in. The even numbers look out over the factories and the odd numbers look out over the highway. If you have the possibility take the even numbers, it's a lot quieter then the rooms at the highway side.

The room service is very good, when you arrive back from work, a few minutes later they bring you a new pot of water to make you some tea. The only down-point is their language skills; they speak only a bit to none English. But it's worth the stay there. Where else can you try to have a conversation with a Chinese speaking person while 2 others also try to help with the translation.

Shenzhen Sunway Hotel

For those of you who wants a good hotel near to the Shenzhen airport, then the Shenzhen Sunway Hotel is a good choice because it is just across the road to the airport at the town of Fuyong. I stayed at this hotel, and find it to be a good hotel in the town of Fuyong which is next to the airport. It takes about 1 hour from here to Shenzhen by the frequent coach services from the airport to Shenzhen.

Although this hotel is far away from Shenzhen, its location in Fuyong gives you a good chance to explore this interesting industrial town next to the airport. Please read my tips in this VT page to find out more about Fuyong and more photos of this hotel are at the travelogue section of this VT page.

My Little Hut: A cheap and clean place at the city center

My Little Hut is the best place to stay for the ones who are looking for a budget hotel in Shenzhen.
It is located only 10min walking distance from the main shopping area Jia feng Lu and very easy to reach there by metro from the Da Ju Yuan station. They have unlimited 24hrs Hot water which means a lot at a Chinese hotel. There are 3 types of rooms prices start from 130 Yuan to 160.The cheaper ones have comparatively small windows. All the rooms are equipped with cable TV , A/C , kettle and in addition customers get fresh towels , bathing slippers , shampoo , toothpaste and toothbrush etc...
on the 2nd floor of the building there is an internet cafe 5 Yuan per hr.
The manager of the place is a Chinese women 'Amy' speaks English and she is very helpful.

The picture Shows the Baoan Nan Lu (Road) that you need to take to get there while following the directions.

It is the cheapest budget budget hotel at the center of Shenzhen and this place accomadating most of the backpackers in Shenzhen as the youth hostel is quite far from the city center. It is good value for the money and location is great.Although it located in the heart of the city this place quite and i shouldn't skip that it is clean. There is no restaurant or a cafe at the hotel so it might be not easy to meet the other travelers like at the youth hostels but this is not a youth hostel it is a budget hotel.

Holiday Inn Express Louhu: First Holiday Inn Express I have seen in China

This is a new hotel in The Louhu section of Shenzhen. Louhu district is in the center of town near Louhu train station, the border with Hong Kong.

If you are familiar with the Holiday Inn Express product, you will know exactly what you are going to get when you book a room here. Everything was as I expected, clean, king bed, good TV, free internet, free breakfast, and everything you get elsewhere in this brand. The other thing you get is a slightly lower price, 426 RMB per night, around $62 per night.

Nothing unique here, just good value for your money.

Around Luohu/Railway station - RMB100 only: Around Luohu/Railway station - RMB100 only

Wan-Li-Bing-Guan (Wan-Li Hotel), RMB100 only for two person, air-con, located at LuoHu district, roughly 10 minutes by walk from railway station. Around this area has got one trillions such hotels, they cost around the same price 100-300.

Many tourists went to the nearest hotel which is the one right at the railway station, called "railway station hotel", easy, it cost RMB160 for 2.

Shanshui Hotel: Shanshui Hotel

The Shanshui Hotel, a 4-star joint owned by the Shenzhen City Land Resources Bureau - of all people - is a welcome find, and at RMB390 one of the best hotel bargains I've found in China.
This very modern building in downtown Shenzhen has enormous rooms, well and comfortably furnished and with an excellent bathroom with a good powerful shower.

The only let down is that the buffet breakfast is a real let down, and there is no free bottled water in the room. Other than that, this hotel is spot on.

The most unique thing is that this hotel seems to have got its act together.

Fuzon Hotel (Jinluan Fuzhong Jiudian): A nice Hotel in Shekou district

I was traveling on business and did not want to spend a lot of money in the two 5 star hotels in the Shekou district. A friend recommended this hotel. The hotel itself is very nice and new. the rooms are big, king sized beds are available, everything is quite good, but the breakfast is just soso. It is a little out of the way, so your taxi driver will not be able to find it too easily unless he is a very local driver. Best to call the hotel and ask.

The hotel is just 3 or 4 blocks from the Sea World complex where there are restaurants serving every style of food imaginable, Mexican, Irish pub, Brazilian and Italian to name a few. The area across form the hotel is a shopping and Chinese restaurant district. The other hotels in this district seem to be in the middle of a red-light district, but this one is not.

Big rooms, very comfortable and quiet for a reasonable price, 348 RMB per night, about $50 USD for a solid 3 star hotel!

Jing Sui Hotel: Budget hotel

Jing Sui hotel (no English name on the sign) is located in the Futian district of Shenzhen. It had the feel of being a family-run operation which I guess it was. In front of the reception desk, there was a security camera trained on the hallway.

I'm not sure how to give the directions to this hotel, but I remember I made a left on Exit C of Ke Xue Guan metro stop, another left, then a right, until I see the ICBC bank and across the street, a Muslim restaurant on the second floor. Now make a left and walk a minute or two down and you will see a sign that says ANGEL BAR. Well, ANGEL BAR is sandwiched between two cheap hotels, Jing Sui and Xin Di Binguan. I stayed at the latter just for one night and moved the next day to Jing Sui where I stayed a couple of days.

I liked the location of Jing Sui hotel which was five minutes walk from Exit C of Ke Xue Guan (Science center) metro station. The area has a couple of Muslim restaurants, local supermarkets, ICBC bank, bars, massage parlors, restaurants, a wet market(inside) and foodstalls(outside) where you can find cheap local food, etc. This obviously is where the locals hang out unlike Lo Huo where more tourists go.

I also liked the price (110 yuan after discount) for two double beds in a spacious room. The room was much better than the one in Hong Kong for which I paid 230HKD for a very small room in the Mirador Mansion, TST area.

Wah Chung International Hotel: Reasonable 3* Hotel in Town

Staffs - freindly & Helpful (provide useful info on shopping & getting to Window of the World)

Facilities - Standard (rooms with TV, chiller, bath tub, windows-city view...). we are too busy to explore whether other facilities like gym is provided cos we are out of hotel all day for sightseeing & shopping. Who cares bout the gym, swimming pool etc?!

Location - right in the middle of Shen Zhen city, 10 minutes walk to Lao Jie metro station and 5 minutes walk to Dong Men shopping hotspots & foods outlets/restaurants. Very convenient.

Price - standard. we got a 3-beded room @ RMB 300 per nite. We did checked at a "bing guan" (hostel, 2* may be), it costs RMB 280. the condition is much lesser satisfied as this Wah Chung.

Hotel Safety

There has been an increase in hotel robberies becasue of the large number of factory closures in the Guangdong area.

Gang of 2 or 3 will gain entery into hotel rooms, usually answer the door as hotel service attendents, tie the occupants up and demand pin numbers from their ATM and credit cards. One or 2 members will go to cash out the bank cards while one stay to keep watch.

If you have laptops some will demand you make online money transfers.

Be sure to use security chains on the door when answering the door. Do not let anyone in to do "repairs" unless verified by the front desk.

Shenzhen Loft youth hostel: Nice place close to the theme parks

I have stayed at this place just for a night and moved to an other place next day because of its location. It is closed to the Theme parks but quite far from the city center. However you can take the metro to the city center for 4 Yuan and the trip takes 20 min. This place is a very clean and quite place. It is suitable for the ones who are looking for some peace in busy Shenzhen city.Although its location may seems like a disadvantage this place is never boring because there are such places like , a cafe , a reading room , a TV room where you can meet the other travelers. The 3 bed dorms are for 55 Yuan if you have youth hostel membership card and 65 if not.

The facilities like all the other hostels exist at Loft Shenzhen. There is a free kitchen for the members
In my opinion the best thing was the supermarket just at the next door where you can buy ready cooked food for reasonable prices as well your beer.A bottle of local Kingsway beer costs 6 Yuan at the hostel. This place is unique in Shenzhen with its low prices and quite location.

XD "Xin Di Bin Guan": Stay for 48 kuai

I arrived in Shenzhen late one Friday night and had to get up early the next morning to go to Hong Kong. So I was looking for a cheap place to crash. There are many sucuh palces between Shen Nan Zhogn Lu and Bin He Lu. I stayed at a place called "Xin Di" or XD. I got a RMB58 room down to RMB48 (US$6.50).

They say you get what you pay for and that was definitely the case. There was a nightclub next door so I was careful to select a room that wouldn't be affected by the blarring base coming out of there (so I demanded the 58kuai room for 48, hehe; they also have rooms advertised for 48 but they are against the nightclub). The room itself was not especially clean, but not filthy either; the bed sheets were OK. The room was small but had a TV. The bathrooms were dormitory style. Squat-style only toilets, but the showers were clean with good water pressure and hot.

Obviously I'm describing a dive joint but not a bad option if you're looking to stay cheaply. You can get here from a bus from the airport, and this area is about a 5 minute walk to the subway station - very convenient. There were many similar options nearby.

As with most of China, you will probably need to speak some Chinese to find this or places like this.
