The perfect place if you're caught in transit. We've stayed there 4 times now of the last few years.
Not the flashiest ShangriLa in the world but it's the only hotel in the area worth staying in.
All of the other international hotels are a 40 minute taxi ride away... Much longer when there's traffic!
Not sure when it was last refurbished.... Maybe it's the colours but it does feel a bit old and tired.
Service is ok, as is the breakfast
If you can, ask for the VIP breakfast area when you check-in, as it is a lot quieter than sitting in the main dining area!!!
Unique Quality: Close to Hongkong border
Guangzhou train
Long distance trains (ie Beijing / shanghai)
Irish bar. Good food.
We came to visit visit Shenzhen a lot while living in Hong Kong, but only stayed overnight a couple times. Once we got a deal for about $150 a night. Yes, expensive for China, but not for anyone who's lived/traveled in Hong Kong or NYC! And the all you can eat and all you can DRINK(!) restaurant is probably the best buffet I have ever seen. Plus, it's literally across the street from the train station to Hong Kong and elsewhere.
two thumbs up!
Unique Quality: awesome all around
Directions: Next to main train station and Lo Wu shopping center
This Hotel is MUCH more expensive, but is definately wonderful. I think If I were to come back I would not stay here, I would stay at Century Plaza Hotel. Shangri La has perhaps a better menu, but all in all, there is nothing specificly better. If you want to take out cash you will have to walk to Century plaza hotel HSBC anyway, becuase this is THE ONLY cash machine that takes foreign cards. Having nothing to do with the price, I would still stay at Century. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Unique Quality: Lounges Restuarants and bars in hotel.
