Hong Kong airport to Shenzhen airport

by ryan243444

#1) I'm going to be in HK for a few days, and then want to take a trip from Shenzhen to Guilin. I will arrange a Chinese visa. I was going to go to HK airport to Shenzhen airport via skypier ferry. Am I allowed to do this even though I'm not arriving at HK airport the day I'm leaving? (I am going to leave shenzhen the same day as the ferry though). Is this the most convenient way? (my hotel is next to the airport)
#2) How many hours before the ferry leaves should I arrive at HK airport? Should I book the ferry ticket in advance to make sure it's not sold out? How many hours should I make sure I have between the time the ferry leaves and the time the plane departs from Shenzhen so as to not miss my flight from shenzhen? How long is the ferry from Hong Kong to Shenzhen airport? I will book my tickets through an internet website and will have to go to the ticket counter at Shenzhen to get them and dont speak the language, which I suppose will add to the time I need.
Thank you so much for any help.

1) I don't know if you'll be allowed to take that ferry. However, there're also buses from Hong Kong airport to Shenzhen airport which I'm sure you can take:
2) Journey time roughly 40 mins. You can get more information from the TurboJet website itself:

Thanks Ellyse,

I e-mailed turbojet and they said the ferry is only for those arriving at HKIA same day. Have you taken the bus before? It says approximately three hours, I'm assuming it's accurate and takes into account crossing through customs at the border? Is this the most convenient way to get to Shenzhen airport? I was wondering about the turbojet ferry from kowloon, but it leaves only 1X/day at 8:45 am, are there other ferry companies that go to shenzhen airport?(outside of the ones in HKIA which it appears I wont have access to). Or do you think bus is the most convenient option given that my wife and I will be right next to HKIA and maybe I should just forget about the ferry? Thanks lots for any help!

AFAIK, I think TurboJet is the only ferry company going to Shenzhen airport.
I haven't taken any of the buses before so I can't comment about the time. But it looks like it might be the most convenient choice.

Ellyse it will be better off sticking to facts you know than information off the internet.

No, one cannot use shypier ferry if you are outside of the HK airport custom area. Skypier ferry is only for people heading directly to Shenzhen upon arriving at the HK airport, it bypasses the HK custom so you physically did not enter HK. Once you came outside of the HK custom area (ie: to the luggage pickup area) you cannot turn back to take the ferry. No can you at a later date.

Best way to from HK airport (ie: your hotel) to Shenzhen airport is to go to the HK airport, at the arrival level there are several counters that sells transport from HK airport to Shenzhen airport. It ranges from bus service to limo (min vans or even a nice Mercedes). Check and book perhpas a day in advance and let them know your flight departure time from Shenzhen, they can advise when you need to depart. Overall, allowing for custom clearance you should allow for 4 hours from HK airport to Shenzhen airport, why so long? 1. traffic at border and Shenzhen highway not predictable 2. if one person in your car/bus has problem at the border crossing it may delay the entire bus/van depending on the company.
BTW, there are inexpensive flights from HK to Guilin that may save you all the running around and time. Try HK Airline (HK Express), considering HK $ is 20% lower than RMB the savings may not be there.

Travel Tips for Shenzhen

Wu Tong Shan /Mt. Wutong

This is a very popular place if you want to seek natural scene in Shenzhen.
In the weekend, you will find a lot of local come here to have a walk from the bottom of the mountain to the top. It is very challenging if you do not exercise regularly since the mountain trek is rather steep. However, this is the best place if you wish to seek natural scenery in an industrial city like Shenzhen.

From Shenzhen to Hong Kong

by mke1963

Crossing the border at Lo Wu from China to Hong Kong is more confusing and less intuitive than heading northbound - now there's a surprise, eh?
Taxis will drop you off at the third floor but the processing facilities on this level are only for Chinese nationals; expatriates will need to go down one level, and the stairs are well hidden. The whole complexx (or is that "hole complex"?) is a complete mess of tiny junk shops and 'Duty Free' stalls in dimly lit, grimy corridors.
When you get to the corridor ("Passage Seven") the usual emigration facilities require the usual queueing for 40 minutes while you watch the bored officials at the empty desks reserved for "APEC Travel Permits" and Diplomats. Since when do diplomats cross borders by a 60 minute train ride and walking 300 metres?

After crossing the foot bridge, passing the even more bored Chinese border guard sitting right by the very middle of the bridge, the Hong Kong side is rather surprisingly also a little bit confusing with misleading signs. No queueing though, and immigration and customs are passed in just a couple of minutes. The 'exit' is traight into the Lo Wu KCR station. There are trains to Hong Kong every 3 to 5 minutes, but getting across to Hong Kong Island takes a surprisingly long time as you will need to change at either Hung Hom or Tsim Sha Tsui - both are easy connections.

All in all it takes about an hour to complete the crossing, and then around another hour to get into Hong Kong. It seemed to take a lot less time and an easier process heading the other way.

A 'Taj Mahal' in China ?????

by lukluk_wal_marjan

Well, that is very well true...or shud I say "ALMOST' true. Not only that, there are also Eifeil Tower, Mount Rushmore, Spinx of Egypt, Leaning Tower etc.

A visit to the Windows of the World is a must. I felt like I have travelled around the world just in half a day....hehehehe better isnt it?

Anyway, this area are well fitted with sculptures and significant monuments of a country. It is huge and you need lots of stamina & energy and of course sufficient memory of your digital camera card or rolls of films if you still using analog camera.

All my pics taken here are using analog and we manage to finish of 2 1/2 rolls of film!

"A day visit to Shenzhen, china"

Shenzhen is a part of China. It is located near to the North of Hongkong. It is also the second busiest port after shanghai. The location is very ideal for industraization and the main target is the Hongkong people. Shenzhen offers a lot of attractive places such as Window of the World, Happy Valley , safari world and many more.

Shenzhen - hugging along Hong Kong's borders

by vincentf

Shenzhen (in Guangdong province of China) is a special economic zone set up by the Chinese goverment for foreign investors. Since then, this place has grown into a large metropolis with towering skyscrapers and chaotic traffic. It is located right adjacent to the border of Hong Kong. Many local Hong Kong people cross the border to purchase amenities since the prices are much cheaper than in Hong Kong. Thus, creating large line ups at the overland borders of Lowu and Huanggang checkpoints.

At night, the city is filled with blinking and moving neon lights. It resembles like Shanghai in terms of nightlife.

Many people/tourists bypass this border city and go to other places within Guangdong province. It is a jumping spot to other cities in the Pearl River Delta, eg. Dongguan, Guangzhou and Panyu. Here's a roadsign just outside Shenzhen along the busy Guangshen Expressway. You can reach places to Guangzhou, Dongguan and Humen.
