Issuance of visa at lo wu border
by cake_diva
Hi!
Are they issuing visa at lo wu border again? I recently found out that they are still not issuing visa at Shekou port. I'm set to leave on the 11th of this month. I'm a Philippine passport holder.
Thanks on advance!

I left China at the start of the New Year and they weren't issuing any then (either Shejou or LuoHu). I haven't heard of any change in that since and I do keep an eye out for changes. Maybe ask on www.shenzhenparty.com as a lot of Shekou people are active on that forum and can check for you.

Take a bus!
by Winged
I'm assuming that if you're in China in the first place, then you have access to someone who can translate for you, in which case they can help you with buses (working out what bus you need, what stop to get off at, how much the fare is). Definitely use the bus instead of taxis. Taxis in Shenzhen are quite expensive compared to much of China, especially if you're going long distances. Bus fares vary depending on how far you're going (trips I took were between 2 and 7 yuan) but even the more expensive ones are a great improvement on taxis! Buses aren't bad; some may be pretty crowded, depending on the time of day and where you're going. I don't know if this is true for *all* buses in Shenzhen, but all the ones we took came every five-ten minutes or so, so if you've just missed one, you don't have long to wait.
cozy, quiet cafe
by zephyrgurl108 about 92 degrees cafe
The city is dotted with Starbucks but this cafe attracts a crowd of its own. If you're looking for a quiet and cozy place to drink your coffee or just relax, this is the place to be. With high french windows and dimly lit interiors, books and artworks covering the walls, the 92 degree cafe seems like the perfect hangout for artists. Drinks aren't bad with all kinds of coffee and tea and some dessert. There's also wireless internet connection available. my favorite drink is the ice cream coffee and caramel coffee.
i always try to get iced coffee because they're in a big glass :) More value for money.
Drinks from RMB20 up.
Museum of Chinese Outstanding Figures
by zephyrgurl108
The Museum of Chinese Outstanding Figures features calligraphy and photos of significant events in China's history as well as distinguished people.
It could be boring if you can't read Chinese so to make it a more interesting visit, bring along a Chinese friend with you to help explain what the things on display are all about.
Entrance is free and the place is open daily 9-6PM, except on Mondays.
ShenZhen -My Second home

"Which is your home?"
In today's globalized world, where most of us keep bumming around because of our jobs, its tough to identify one palce as your home. I guess as we grow up and as our priorities (not to mention tastes) change, our home or rather homebase also keeps changing. so this is how I landed up in SZ for the first time during 2002. And since then it has been home to me, for almost 3 years!
It is a lot like my true home -Bangalore. Like Bangalore this city also has a limited history and it is also home to people from all over the country. Just like Bangalore, SZ is also very tolerant towards people form other places. But the cometetion here is bit more cut-throat than Bangalore! SZ is the true garden city with all major roads lined with all kinds of trees and specatular flowers.
this is the plae where I lived initially
"Chinese Pep-Talk"
this is common scene that you will see in almost all aprts of China. The restaurant, supermarket and security staff are assembled once/twice everyday like this and their manager delivers a small talk to make them more oriented towards work. At the end they shout some words that almost sounds like war-cry (like we say "Jai Hind" back home in India!). Its an interesting scene not to be missed. The typical timings for such a meeting is around 9 AM in the morning and around 5 pm in the evening.
