Affordable accommodation near the river

This accommodation was booked via our travel agent in Australia. We only paid $33AUD each per night here, so we werent expecting too much. We had also been told that it was a very basic Chinese 3 star Hotel, and would probably be very basic. I am pleased to report that we were quite impressed with the Fubo Hotel, after the Canaan, anything would be an improvement!

The lobby was nice, the reception staff spoke quite good english, and the location looked perfect, right on the river and only a short distance from the centre of town. When we entered our hotel room, we were happy little chappies! The room was quite large, room was furnished nicely AND it had a fridge and more importantly .... a real Hair Dryer!!! We were jumping for joy at the sight of such small luxuries!

The view from our bedroom window was beautiful, the river with karst hills in the distance. And on subsequent days, the sky became clearer and the view became even better.

We ate at the Restaurant one night and also ordered room service on another night and the food was great.

So ... we have nothing negative at all to report about the Fubo Hotel in Guilin. It was all good - the room was good, the price was good, the food was good and the location was good. I would highly recommend this Hotel for people travelling on a budget. Only one very small issue was that we were told there was an in-room safe and there wasnt, so we had to leave our valuables at the safety deposit box at reception, which wasnt really a major issue. Oh, and we did get a massage here, mine was so hard that the lady left me bruised! Location Location Location!!!

Views from Fubo Shan

These are the views from the top of the 213 metre high Fubo Shan which offer good views of the Li River. Unfortunately it was a little wet when I was there so the views were not that brilliant.

"General Fubo"

Bronze statute of General Fubo. Fubo Hill is named after this general.

"Buddha carvings"

Few of the many buddha carvings in Fubo Hill. As the carvings are high up, they can avoid vandalism and preserve its orginal form.

"Sword Testing Stone"

This is the Sword Testing Stone. The gap is only a palm's size. Avoid banging on the stone as it is just hanging down precariously.

"Big Banyan Tree"

A big and old Banyan tree which offers great shelter to tourists.
