In the 50 km from Guilin to Yangshuo, long segments of the river seem desert. Here and there, ducks and a few buffaloes, make us understand that the people is there, but living from something else than the river, disturbed by the out comers.

Solitary Beauty Peaks
by Christianzagar
This peak is the main peak in town. It's cost's 50 kwai to get in...... it's expensive.... and I can't say whether it's worth going or not... I do have fond memories so i guess it was worth it for me.... The views are amazing and you can see for miles all around. Sunsets are especially beautiful so I am told. At the base of the peak are various inscriptions carved into the rock by famous scholars past. Mostly they say how beautiful the area is. The Guangxi Normal university uses the grounds below the peak and there is a museum in the 14th century Ming princes museum, which is worth going to see... as many of the displays are like plays and the actors hang out behind curtains until they perform....which is not too often... There is also a tour guide who will try to pressure you into buying something from the souvenier shop.
Xiangbi Shan (Elephant Trunk Hill)
by magor65
It does resemble the elephant drinking water from the river. Between its trunk and the legs there is a cave called 'Moon-over-Water Cave. On its walls you can find many inscriptions coming from the Tang and Song dynasties. Everywhere in China you must pay to see any place of interest. In case of Xiangbi Shan the admission is about 15 RMB. But it's worth it. If you want to spend more money you may fancy a short trip on the raft.
Downtown Guilin
by yipsufen
There are many commercial buildings, banks, shopping malls and retail outlets in the downtown of Guilin. Some of the famous restaurants, fastfood outlets and branded fashion wears are located here. Most bookstores and VCD shops are at underground. Walk further down, you can see the Guilin Square which has a glass pyramid-like structure. There's a tourist information booth here. The roads are wide, clean and not that many traffic.
