Guilin train station to bus station

by johnandlynclarke

We are going to Yangshuo. I understand that after we land at Guilin, we should take the airport bus into town. I think the bus goes to the train station and we then have to make our way to the long distance bus station for the express bus to Yangshuo. In one writeup they said the bus station is 500 meters away but in another one someone else said it is a 10 minute walk. My questions are how far is it and will there be taxis around to haul our luggage and us if it is indeed a ten minute walk?

I think the airport bus sometimes goes all the way into Yangshuo.

Anyway, the airport bus doesn't actually stop at the railway station either, just nearby. The bus station is about 500 meters from the rail station - if you walk fast, that is 10 minutes! Plenty of taxis will swarm round you when you get off the airport bus. I think minimum fare is 7.5 RMB (US$1) in Guilin. No tipping in China!

Yangshuo is about 80 Km from Guilin - express bus journey should be less than one hour, cost about 15 RMB (US$2)

Travel Tips for Guilin

Chestnuts - Steamed or Roasted

by myspices

Chestnuts can be found everywhere. It is either in the roasted form or the steamed type. I prefer the roasted ones as I find them to be more delicious in taste and has a stronger "nut" aroma. The chestnuts are firstly cleaned and slits are made to the nuts for ease of peeling and also them to be cooked in a faster manner. The roasted chestnuts are roasted by frying them over some special black coarse salt. Steamed ones are basically steaming them over hot fire.

Chestnuts are sold by weight. Each kati is about 6yuan to 7yuan

You can choose the route from 3 hours upto 6-7 hours. Many itneresting places can be stopped, like Moon Hill, Tall Banyan...

Rong Hu by night

At night time, Rong Hu transforms into an even more romantic setting than by day, as the lights come up around the lakeside... This photo shows Rong Hu after darkness has set in, with the green and violet reflections on the water and one of the old-fashioned Chinese style circular bridges...

Dragon Sauna & Massage Parlor

by geekgrrl

We had some extra time before our flight to Hong Kong, so our guide took us to the Dragon sauna and massage parlor for a foot massage. We were taken inside to an area that was sectioned off into areas with 8 reclining seats per section, two pairs facing each other. We ordered tea which came in big mugs. At the foot of the recliner was a stool which covered a tiny foot tub with drain and running water. We took off our wet shoes and sox, and then our feet were placed in the tub (with hot water) and washed. The tub was drained and filled again for our feet to be rinsed. Then the tub was filled again with hot water and some kind of tea or herbs (whatever, it looked dark brown). We soaked our feet for at least 5 minutes. Then the massage began. The masseuse put the stool back over the tub, and one foot was wrapped in a towel to keep it warm. Lots of warm lotions were rubbed into our feet and massaged for at least 25 minutes. Then the other foot was done. When that was over, both feet were wrapped in towels, and we got leg massages, neck, shoulder, and back massages. What a treat.
