What a Gem - Check it Out
We were in Hangzhou and had not been smart about making plans early over the May Day holiday to book a room in Guilin. We went to a beautiful, upscale Marriott hotel in town and asked the concierge to help us with hotel accommodations in Guilin. The staff was so helpful and friendly, especially given the language barrier. They said the only option they could find was a 4 star hotel. Now I understand that quality ratings vary internationally, so despite what 4 star meant, we were concerned about the price about to be quoted to us, but what option did we have. Our flight departed in just a few hours. We agreed to the hotel and were told breakfast was included with the rate and a car service would be waiting at the airport for us (this was an additional charge, but seeing as we didn't know where we were going seemed a wise idea). So we braced ourselves for the price - equivalent to $40 USD/ night. Not per person but for the room! Now we were very frightened - what did 4 star mean here for only $40 per night???
Let me tell you! It was beautiful, upscale and traditional and with an incredibly friendly staff. I so highly recommend this property. Now we didn't spend much time in town - it was not centrally located to Guilin's downtown, but I believe the staff could get a driver or taxi to take you to town...The restaurants in the hotel offered a variety of food selection and were also well staffed and satisfying.
Unique Quality: There was a quiet floor if you were so inclined and for me the best part was there was a carpet changed out daily in the elevator with the day of the week on it! How Cool!!

4 Star Tourist Hotel
My first hotel when in Guilin. Reasonable accommodation and service for a tourist hotel.
As it was all arranged by tour, we had our breakfast in our groups and then hopped on the bus to tour and come back late after dinner. So did not see much of the botel facilities except to sleep in.
Hotel location is picturesque. 3 km from downtown. Has courtyard gardens and decor is traditional Chinese.
Have several great restaurants including "Four Season" for dim sum, Cantonese and Sichuan styles, "Bamboo Garden" which serves Beijing, Sichuan, Guilin, Shanghainese styles.
Also a cafe serving western dishes. There is also a Muslim restaurant.
