New Years Eve in Yangzhuo

by frankdalian

I am on New Years Eve with my girl-friend in Yangzhou. Can you recommend some places to go? Is there something special (I mean the 31th of December, not the chinese new year). Thanks for your help.

Ive been to Yangshou a couple of times now. You should be able to find plenty of nightspots pumping on New Years Eve. Sorry i cant help with actual names. However the town is quite compact and if you walk down the main street you will know where it is happening ;)

Do you mean Yangzhou (in Jiangsu province) or Yangshuo (in Guangxi province)?!

Travel Tips for Guilin

Discipline

by solopes

I've already posted something, somewhere in China's pages, about Chinese discipline at work. Remarkable. The almost military way how they line in their working places, waiting for the clients, is something uncommon in the west.
But there's discipline and discipline, and I think that all men will agree with me that discipline at work in Guilin has something special... a "je ne sais quoi"... a...

Zhengyang Paedestrian Street

by yipsufen

Zhengyang Pedestrian Street is 666 meters long and located in the downtown of Guilin city. It is surrounded by restaurants, hotels, fashion and shoes outlets, theatres, stadiums, commercial facilities and scenic spots. Zhengyang Pedestrian Street has all of the conveniences that are required for good shopping in a very pleasant environment.

In many ways Zhengyang Pedestrian Street is the hub of the city. Its shops and restaurants bring thousands of people daily to the area and at night it pulsates with life as people use the many venues that offer great nightlife. You can find McDonald's and KFC here.

Shan Hu

by Guantanamera

Immediately adjacent to the Li Jiang, and smack dab in the middle of downtown Guilin, Shan Hu is a delightful little lake, well, more of a pond, really, that is charmingly landscaped and contains a number of nicely placed rocks on its shore for people to sit on and admire the view of the two large colorful pagodas nearby...

Fubo Shan - Sword Testing Rock

by Willettsworld

Inside Pearl-Returning Cave, a rock named Sword-Testing Rock hangs from the ceiling, nearly touching the ground. General Fubo is said to have tested his sword by cutting what was originally a stone pillar and has left a crevice at the bottom ever since.

There is a 4-5 centimetres chink between the stone column hanging down from the ceiling and the huge flat stone on the ground, as if cut by a sword, hence its name. In fact, the formation of the chink was due to the long time wash of the calcium shale formation of the stone column bottom by the water of the river.

Competitive Advantage!

by easyoar

This fisherman was not at all popular with the other fishermen. It must have been something akin to when the first farmer bought a tractor whilst all the others still used oxen to pull their ploughs!

Checkout his raft, he seems to have bought up all the cormorants around!

No, seriously, I think this guy was responsible for looking after all of the birds when they weren't working. The average fisherman seems to fish with only 2 or 3 birds. I don't think anyone would have enough time to be able to cope with this many cormorants all wanting to come in and have fish removed from their throats!
